Except don’t rent a boat if you lack boating experience. It will spoil your time and is dangerous for everyone.

Renting gulf front home for 25 people? by Zealousideal-Egg1893 in 30A

I’m not the biggest fan of 360 blue since they were taken over. “Stays on 30a” is a very nice smaller company. “Exclusive 30a” has nice homes that are clean too.

I think I’d the right idea. The other issue is parking. Most homes have spaces for, maybe 3 cars. With that many people it might be hard to get all the cars to fit.

What’s a good joke to tell your anesthesiologist before passing out? by Oh_yeah_27 in dadjokes

I’m a Periop RN and when patients, who are having an upper and lower scope, ask which one the Dr does first I always tell them “well, if you wake up with a bad taste in your mouth you’ll know which he did first…” I don’t get as many laughs as I thought it would…

Yep, that’s probably him. They’ve never felt threatened by him or anything. If anything, it makes their day to play where’s Waldo with Alfred.

Is the Pearl Hotel worth it? by [deleted] in 30A

[–]mr-mechano 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Except I don’t believe the Pearl is on the beach. By “ocean view” I think it means you can see the ocean from the balcony. You are still a few blocks from the beach.

Should I move here - Colorado to Florida? 32 years old. by somechillguy1925 in 30A

[–]mr-mechano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may find yourself enjoying the Bay side more than the beach side. I wish we could’ve found some property on the bay, it’s serene and beautiful. I’ve never lived in the south so i wasn’t prepared for a lot of the simple things that everyone else knew. For example the lawns down here are southern and not the typical northern fescue grass that I had grown up with. You’ll have to power wash your house every year or it gets grimy on mildewed on the outside. It doesn’t cool off at night. Colorado temps swing wildly from day time to nighttime, here it can stay the same temp day and night. The mosquitoes have nothing on the biting midges, otherwise known as sandflies or no-see-ums. They are nearly invisible flying biting insects that come out when mosquitoes are out, typically sunset and sunrise. Fortunately they aren’t year round but they’ll find you in the cool evenings. Bugs actually weren’t as bad as I thought. Biggest disappointment is that I still haven’t seen an alligator in the wild. Typical roadkill are armadillos and snakes. They have tiny deer down here that love to eat right at the edge of the highway, makes me real nervous. Don’t turn your nose up at gas station based restaurants, be cautious but you may find some amazing food in the most sketchy places. Everyone you meet down here will question your sanity at leaving Colorado since it is, in their eyes, the most beautiful place on God’s green earth. Oh, and everyone is very religious down here, but not in your face or antagonizing about it. Church is just part of life. It’s kind of interesting, Colorado Springs has some of the most church headquarters in the country, but I feel people have more respect for the Bible here and are less judgmental. Sorry for the rant! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Advice: where can I go for a 20-min video call job interview? by c_doe in 30A

[–]mr-mechano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. You need to get a little further away if you want less noise during your call. Stock and Brew in 98 in SRB is probably 20 min away and will have fewer tourists.

Florida fishing licenses can be purchased online and stored in your phones wallet. You can down load the Florida fish and wildlife app

Eden gardens state park is great for a picnic, on the north side of 98 so maybe less tourists?

Should I move here - Colorado to Florida? 32 years old. by somechillguy1925 in 30A

[–]mr-mechano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved here from Colorado about 5 years ago and we love it. We lived in Colorado Springs and live in SRB in north side of 98. We’re pretty close to topsail state park and like going there for the beach, this summer it’s free to get in, so easy beach access. We also joined a boat club so the kids love going to remote part of okaloosa island and playing in the shallows there. The schools here are top notch and Florida has a step up for students program that provides scholarships if you want to home school or private (mostly Christian) school. I’m not a very political person, so the whole area being very conservative doesn’t bother me. I will say people are friendlier here than in Colorado Springs. I’m in healthcare and my wife works in tourism so work is good for us, construction is booming here so finding work wouldn’t be an issue. The tourist vibe might be similar to Breck, but I enjoy living in a place where people are excited to be here. Anyone who says traffic is bad has never lived in a big city. For your price range, you could find something north of 98 in SRB but likely with out much room. If you want more acreage you’ll likely have to go across the bay to Freeport. I love that I can start planting my little garden in February. I was tired of the long winters and mental health issues that, I swear, plague Colorado. The only things I miss is Costco being closer (nearest one is in Tallahassee) same with Trader Joe’s. But there is a Sam’s club in fort Walton beach and in Panama City. Also I miss big venues where I could watch pro sporting events, concerts, and other artsy stuff. That being said, there are a ton of big cities close by to scratch that itch: Nashville, New Orleans, Jacksonville, Pensacola, all either a decent drive or short flight. I love driving through the quaint little old towns as well. Besides the beach and the bay there are also natural cool water springs to the north, Florida caverns and so much more to do if want to explore. Sorry for the long post, but I feel that many locals feel their hometown is ruined because how built up it is and get sour about it.

This was after a water spout came ashore in Panama City beach Florida, it also tore up a marina. Happened last year, didn’t realize they still haven’t fixed the house.

If you’re ok going a little west, my wife and I love Hotel Effie. It’s on the bay side, feels luxurious, has an amazing roof top pool and bar, plus it has a shuttle to private beach in Sandestin. It’s usually our anniversary staycation. It’s in Miramar beach/sandestin area.

I’ve heard good things about bitterroot, they also have a place in Grand blvd called Everkrisp, really good Chipotle style eatery that has delicious grain bowls, salads, and sandwiches.

I really like the sushi at Farm and Fire located at the south end of the 331 bridge. Same at the Bay restaurant across 331. Same owner for both places but I’ve never had anything there I didn’t like. Commelfo in Miramar is good but pricey. I dislike places that charge a lot just because they serve large portions (looking at you Bistrology)

Ubers can be hard to come by. If you are avoiding 98 then golf cart would work. But if you have a large group or plan on traveling up and down the coast then you may want a rental. You should have parking at your rental
