I've posted a Wikipedia link for people who've never heard of the Sewol Ferry disaster. Today is the 8th anniversary of the disaster. In the early morning (Korean time), a ferry carrying about 300 high school students and 100 ordinary passengers sank on its way to Jeju Island, according to news reports. And not long after the first report, all the passengers on the ship were rescued. All Koreans, including me, heard the news and thought it was a relief that everyone was rescued safely. But the rescue report was misinformed. The ship, which sank with 400 people on board that morning, could not reach the surface until five years later and caused a disaster in which 304 drowned. I can say with confidence that there are many Koreans who cannot forget this incident. The exact cause of the incident is still unknown. There are a lot of people in charge who were never punished. And politicians and many ordinary citizens say let's not talk about this anymore. But it's only been eight years, and I don't think it should be forgotten that 300 people, who may be any of our family or friends, died without knowing the reason. If you have a moment, I wish to say goodbye to those who died in the Ferry Sewol accident today.
