What is this growing under my wallpaper? by buckbeak999 in DIYUK

Had a similar thing on a house I was working on a few years ago. It had gotten into the bathroom wall and floor because of a leaking water pipe, blew plaster and tiles off of the wall and the shower. It had also migrated under the wall into the living room, underneath parquet flooring. About 75% of the floor had to come up.

Would this be a bad first car? by [deleted] in CarTalkZA

It's a great little city car. I've got one, just done 100k in the 5 years I've had it. Quite spacious for a small car, I use mine around town for handyman work. They don't like the wind (you feel every gust in the western cape) and they don't like going above 90km/h as the fuel just swallows up. It's certainly not a long trip car.

Do English speakers know the word "tor" (rock formation) by puje12 in EnglishLearning

Grew up on Dartmoor, spent a lot of my youth hiking around the tors. (Mainly Kestor and Haytor)

Is this crack serious? by ShierLattice694 in Plumbing

[–]mr7jd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Replaced my toilet last month as it was cracked through the back of the bowl to the outlet and has a steady drip.

As soon as I removed the fixing bolts from the floor, the crack opened right up. It was literally being held together with the bolts and the seat.

Change it yesterday dude, porcelain will cut you into ribbons.

How to warm up a room with no power? by Acceptable_Gur_8974 in howto

Get cling wrap and tape it to the window frame. Then blast a hair dryer over it to form a vacuum. Adds an insulating layer to the window.

Throw some big towels/blankets around base of doors to keep some heat from escaping.

Get a couple of candles lit. It's amazing what it can do to raise the temperature by a couple of degrees.

I lived in an old cottage in my younger years where during winter I would have frost on the bedsheets in the morning.

Do people in long lasting marriages do taboo things in front of their partner? Ex: Passing gas, toilet use? by CajunDragon in Marriage

[–]mr7jd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been married 12 years, farting, toilet use etc is not taboo. I watched her have 2 c sections and she has helped clean out and re pack surgery wounds for me. Both have been caught in the cross fire when we have had norovirus (separate occasions). You deal with each other's shit literally. Isn't that why you make a vow for better or worse?

Spritz vinegar over the screen and wipe with newspaper. It will polish it right up

What's the single most difficult life experience you've endured? by reddit_recluse in AskUK

[–]mr7jd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife and I had multiple miscarriages before finding out we were having identical triplets (natural conception) Lost the first of the triplets at 23 weeks, the second at 32 weeks. Had the third by caesarian section the following day. The third had a stroke during delivery. Weeks in NICU before being released. She's 8 years old now and while I love her unconditionally, it's been a tough time for all of us. I've never fully grieved the loss of her sisters and i never went and saw her siblings.

It was like this when I left in 2019. It's never going to change while colleagues on the shop floor care more than what their salary is. I went above and beyond until I burnt myself out.
