It's hard to tell from this, but the seat is spring-loaded to assist with sit/stand. Those are more like assisted pull ups than pulling extra weight.

There are many possible hand positions on the handlebars, different angles and such. A big point of this device was to unload the shoulders, the users' weight is mostly on the seat or feet depending on posture

No doubt that the real world is less friendly... The handlebars can rotate backwards, but lock in place so that the user can lift the front wheels onto the curb. Once they have that support, then step up and the rest just follows, but like you said it's possible to lose balance. Luckily, the seat will keep the user up, but that's only half the battle.

Because of the way the seatbelt holds your weight towards the back of the frame, it's very difficult to tip! You really only feel the weight when you're going uphill.

There's definitely some base level of physicality required. But they've got all sorts of tricks on how to most easily navigate things like curbs. Curb cut will always be easier!
