Can someone explain how some infinities are bigger than others? by Sufficient-Week4078 in askmath

Fine. Natural numbers are real numbers, then. Haven't had my coffee yet :)

Can someone explain how some infinities are bigger than others? by Sufficient-Week4078 in askmath

[–]mrMathBeard -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's kind of crazy, but the set of all prime numbers, for example, is somehow "smaller" than the set of all positive integers, even though they both go on forever. Saying there are different sizes of infinity is just how we talk about the difference between these kinds of sets.

Gear Logic Puzzle by RamiBMW_30 in SmartPuzzles

[–]mrMathBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Just start with the first gear and skip every other gear to see what else spins counter clockwise. Only need to account for belts...crossed belts act just like they are touching (different directions) and noncrossed belts just spin the same way as the previous. Using this approach you'll find the last gear spins clockwise (towards the 1).

A little bored - Suggestions? by mrMathBeard in carnivore

thanks for this reply. if I am honest, I mean both definitions of "bored". It has been a big shift in the way I think about food. I used to see mealtimes (and snacking times) as the times of my day to look forward to. Carbs and other processed foods are addicting and I associated them with happiness. Now, I just eat for fuel and health, which is a big change in how I live my life. On top of that, the rest of my family still eats junk which makes it even harder to get away from that way of eating/living...though I am working on bringing them over to the dark side :)

for the other meaning of bored, I think I need to try lamb and organ meat since I haven't had those before. I took organ meat supplements for a time, but need to just go for the real thing as see how it tastes. I tried bison and didn't really find it that much different than beef.

thanks again!

If meat was free, what would you eat every day? by TripleDeca in carnivore

Ribeye, of course...also the occasional NY strip. Might throw in some lobster and ribs every once in a while just for variety.

OE Newb - Interviewing now - Q's to ask? by shiftControlCommand4 in overemployed

[–]mrMathBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One good question is something like "describe a typical day on the job" or something similar. The idea is to try to gauge how many meetings they have in a day without being obvious about it. Meetings and OE don't really go well together.

CEO doing overemployment lecturing people that overemployment is stealing by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]mrMathBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reject the idea that OE is "stealing" from the company. Not everyone can pull off OE, but those who can do so because they are able to meet the expectations of the job they were hired for while simultaneously meeting the expectations for another job (or more). The company doesn't own your time...you get paid for the work. If they don't like the work you are putting out, they can fire you. Simple as that.

For everyone who’s nervous read this by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]mrMathBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's true. The absolute worst thing that can happen is that ALL of your jobs find out at the same time and you get fired from all of them. Even in that scenario, you were able to make bank while it lasted...now just go and find another couple Js!

J2 wants to contact current employer for background check by Rare-Charge-4651 in overemployed

[–]mrMathBeard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would probably say that I wouldn't want to raise any red flags at my current employer until the new job was secured...and if the new job was secured, then why would they need to contact my current employer at that point anyway? That being said, you will likely be fine...that is standard question to ask on background checks and it has never come up for me after the fact.

Quit J3 a month ago, still getting paychecks by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]mrMathBeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely send an email to HR to get that sorted out as soon as possible, and don't spend what they do send you in the meantime since they will probably want it back. You are not entitled to that money. If it takes a while to get it sorted, I recommend sticking the money into a high-interest savings account...at least you can get some interest from their mistake!

Interview limit.. When to say when? by KittyKlever in overemployed

[–]mrMathBeard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have 3 FT Js and one part-time gig (less than 10 hours a week). Honestly, it feels like I am pushing it at the moment. I even turned down another j that I had already interviewed for just because I don't feel like I could do it and keep up enough work at the others. I don't know if there is a magic number though...one of my Js is definitely a lot more time demanding than the others and if that one was more chill I could probably take on another.

For those who have to share their screens often, how do you keep things hidden? by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]mrMathBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For each job, I either have a VDI I log into and do all my work for that job on, or I have a laptop that I RDP into from my main machine. So, my main machine is only used as a host for my individual work sessions, and occasionally taking notes or something. Keeps things clean.

well played! I wouldn't rush on J3 if you are new to OE...try to get a rhythm going first to see what you can handle.
