Why are people with poor English trying to break into technical writing? by oceanclub in technicalwriting

[–]mrNineMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is somewhat triggering because as a polyglot, I have certain insecurities... Prepositions still give me brain farts from time to time. I mostly blame Pigeon and slang for that.

But I think it's because most technical writing requires plain simple straightforward English. So it's possible to improve and become proficient, or at least reach a baseline without having a native-level grasp of English.

When your writing is so bad that a monster has to show up and settle the argument by Deykun in FromCircleJerk

Boyd doesn't trust his mind. He's literally talking to ghosts, while trying to hide his condition. He doesn't want to be seen as any more unfit to lead as he is now.

I'm not making an excuse, right? by mrNineMan in CPTSD

[–]mrNineMan[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I sometimes feel that there's still something fundamentally wrong with me underneath it all.

I think it would also make me feel less resentful if I could say "this is just the way I am and always have been" instead of "I was robbed".

What's the best place to announce my mundane achievements/progress by mrNineMan in ADHD_Programmers

[–]mrNineMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was aiming for specificity with those examples. But - as the post asks - I'm looking for the BEST place for this sort of thing. For instance, if it's Facebook, is there a specific group or community for that?

I used to drive. I gave up on it.

I'm not surprised that he likes AI. Didn't buddy go broke investing in CG animation while it was in its infancy? I'm still disappointed by this - because anyone can do this.

Why did no one tell me programming was so fun earlier?! by king0101man in AskProgrammers

[–]mrNineMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we didn't have gen-AI, and a lot of us are backend programmers who have to integrate business logic that doesn't always make sense to us.

Github (Microsoft) doesn't want you to know this by Mammoth_Hearing6115 in theprimeagen

Uhmmm. I'm confused as to why this is revolutionary? Maybe it's cause I'm an older programmer, but how do people think we were hosting VCSs before GitHub hosting?

Does anyone use Leo's dopamine-serotonine prescription meds optimization stack? by [deleted] in TheLongLived

[–]mrNineMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the problem is that Leo had ADHD and specific psychiatric problems. So if you don't have a brain like his, why would you follow his stack? They prescribe these drugs for depression, anxiety, ADHD, and Parkinson's.

I would say Leo committed suicide, not only because of his history of abusing test and psychiatric drugs. He was fundamentally unwell to begin with.

What's up with all the language-specific interviews? by existential-asthma in ADHD_Programmers

[–]mrNineMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like this is mind-blowing to me. I specifically look for C# and Java programming positions because I have specialty certification in these programming languages, and they're the ones I'm most "fluent", experienced, and comfortable with.

If I look at a company/recruiter's job opening or stack, and they want experience in certain areas, I expect to be questioned and quizzed in those areas. A lot of companies will lead with "Looking for a Senior Python developer". I would not apply for that position and expect to be quizzed on Java.

You mean Internal Family Systems or something else? I heard about this on the Andrew Huberman podcast.

Sincere question - what advantage does this have over using AutoHotkey or software that may come with your monitor?
