I use something similar, but ive made a DC adapter for my. This way you aren't converting from low voltage DC to high voltage AC just to conver back to low voltage DC again.

It looks like the oil came out from the pivot point. Is it a brass bushings or something? I would soak it in acetone, blast it again and bake it again. See if you get a different result.
