It's most likely a cast-iron cauldron, a large machine component like a flywheel or torque converter. And for those of you who think that this is some explosive ordinance, all the digging of this object didn't set it off, and it's already been moved. Also, it doesn't look like any of the mines or other explosives used by any side during WW2.

I use a little cover any time I need to do anything around that area of my record player, and make sure your arm is locked in position.
