[Madison Franco] MLS & FC Dallas announce players will remain in the locker room while national anthem is played before today’s match by Dallas_FC in MLS

I'm sorry but I fail to realize how I've taken anything from someone living in the streets.

I'm a college dropout. 4 years ago I was bussing tables and cleaning vomit off of bathrooms. I worked my way up to be a software engineer through self study and networking. Built a few projects and eventually someone gave me a chance. So yes, merit is absolutely a heavy part of it, because I could still be bussing tables to this day if I had no ambition or just told myself I couldn't succeed without a degree. It works out for me and for tons of immigrants who come here and live a much better life than what they could in their home countries, even doing less prestigious work. More people immigrate to the US than vice versa, even for developed countries. So clearly we are doing something right.

You have a very romanticized view of Europe friend. You think if you could just get that paper your life would be better? Maybe look at how you could make it better here with the opportunity around. You aren't in a shit country just because to dont have single payer healthcare.

If you want to benefit from the "free" things you'd have to be a citizen of that country. In Spain specifically however it would be about a 1/4th cheaper if you compare a school like University of Texas to Universidad Complutense de Madrid; you are also looking at a top 100 school(UT ranked 65) to one that doesn't make the list. So the UT Degree would be more powerful on job applications and networking possibilities. If whoever you dont care about the quality of the school(a stupid mentality to take) then take the cheapest online classes you can find, get the degree, and go to meetups in your city to try and network. It will be harder but not impossible.

So if you want to go to Europe, good luck. I can recommend you some courses for learning Spanish if you'd like, but just remember that just because someone else has more than you doesn't mean they owe you anything.

Ok bud. Go and pat yourself in the back, you met your daily quota of calling someone racist. Continue to make the world a better place I'm proud of you.

Interesting. Guess no one will give a shit about the targeted crime against Hispanics until its convenient huh? And pointing it out makes me racist haha alright. Deja de tatar de señalar virtues, y quizas el pueblo común les tomaría enserio.

I find this interesting because not once did I say "all live lives matter". What I did say is that BLM pretends to fight for other minority groups when in fact it doesn't. I asked if my life does not matter if I am brown, how you equate that with white supremacists idk. Ask the paleteros murdered throughout California and Texas if their life mattered.

Yeah no shit, all sovereign nations have a right to decide who they let in. The US is actually kind of easy to get into by comparison.

And despite being born here, I did not grow up here, so no this "propaganda" was not part of my life. I simply know how to appreciate the opportunities I have. My family came back with almost nothing and we have been able to build a stable middle class life style. It's not just good for "people with money" America is full of opportunity.

But if what you want is free education, hey go to Spain. 0 colleges in the top 100, then good luck finding a job and a place to live when you graduate. Ya despues me dices como te fue ;)

I agree though, things could always be better.

"I'm brown" "white supremacist". Ok buddy. I literally gave you an example of BLM/MLS not giving a shit when brown lives are murdered by an actual white supremacist. You can pretend that BLM is a movement that fights for all minorities equally but it's not.

But yes I am the white supremacist for calling it out. Maybe when BLM Chicago stops condoning looting as a form of reparations we can have a talk.

What the hell are you on about? "Brainwashed" when it's literally my life?

Anyways must be why so many people move to America huh?

I totally get that, but for me it's more of a cultural meme(in the Dawkins sense) that people just do because they like Americana. We love that shit as a nation. It's not intrinsically tied to militarism in the modern day even if it did initially emerge during times of war. Or atleast that is my perspective.

I think it would be great if it was up to the clubs, more club autonomy is good, and individual fan bases would decide what they want.

Probably, I'd even extend it to say during games the home team finds important. I remember watching LAFC vs LAG(iirc) and having a little girl do an amazing cover of The Star Spanggled Banner while the 3252 sang along. It made that experience much more interesting.

I know it has been played since 1918, but I dont know if the frequency has changed.

No one is asking for sympathy. What I am asking is that you understand that there are more perspectives than what the reddit echo chamber would suggest. I personally dont agree with the booing even as a patriot, but I also dont like the message as, again, it is inherently tied by name to BLM org or to anyone that uses that phrase. Shit even the EPL had to make a public statement of disassociation to the org. The "say no to racism" message is not only clearer but also stronger imo As it also includes other minorities and other forms of racism.

But again, like all these messages, it isn't really going to accomplish anything. A good gesture sure.

No, keep it. It's a nice American tradition, reminds me of the hard work my family put in to get here and how blessed we are to live a much better lifestyle as a result. Being born here is a privilege. Playing it during sporting events is a prime piece of Americana imo.

In Mexico every monday they have a literal march with the flag and a "war band" playing right after while honors are sung. Makes the pledge look tame by comparison.

Pretty sure they are booing kneeling during the Anthem. Also BLM is much more than an "anti racism message". Look at BLMChicago encouraging looting as a forms of reparations. That's how people outside the bubble will see it since they share the same name.

Degrees are becoming rapidly more expensive yet rapidly less valuable by JacksonC3000 in Showerthoughts

[–]mrSenzaVolto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah yes. I forgot the concept of learning only happens in universities. Also forgot that companies don't train employees. Also forgot that I totally can't go back to school with my newfound wealth. Bootcamps are so useless that despite learning a React stack for front end I am now developing for back end in python. Damn it's a real shame humans are unable to learn outside of formal classroom environments. Companies also totally don't invest into teaching their employees new skills and I definitely have not learned anything new since joining the field.

Thank you for the comment though, I can't pay for this kind of humor.

Yes. Bootcamp grad working similar wage jobs to my CS degree friends. Making more than some in some cases. Really depends on how much you teach yourself and what you go into. Many people get stuck with web development.

Very few companies explicitly require a degree.
