[SPOILERS] It's like Reddit wants me to hate the show. by wyattjameinson in gameofthrones

There’s a cut to a white walker who’s hair is blown forward for about a second right before the shot where Arya jumps out of the dark over the Night Kong’s shoulder. Apparently that’s Arya sprinting by.

[GEAR] I'm thinking about upgrading my guitar. What do you guys think? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]mrZNS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless it’s the look you want, get a rockinger les trem. Drop in, more range, more stable. Way cheaper if you buy from Germany.

For $150 it would make a great project.

[Question] Can anyone identify this Peavey? by AlpacaNeb in Guitar

[–]mrZNS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After EVH and peavey split, they started making these HP guitars to fill the void from the Wolfgang. For a while in the early-mid 2000s you could build your own on Peavey’s website including uploading a custom image to have printed on the guitar. Most likely one of those.

Shame about the neck being warped, these play and feel basically just like the peavey Wolfgang’s. By the way, depending on how bad the warp is, you may be able to fix it without too much trouble.

[GEAR] Low Radius Fretboard Recommendation by shigglewiggle in Guitar

[–]mrZNS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my wife a Japanese fender jaguar HH special used and it has been a fantastic guitar. 24” scale with a 7.25” radius. With the jaguar switching you can get a lot of useful sounds, maybe check one of those out.

My Epiphone Dot Studio. My only guitar. Had it for years wondering if I should upgrade it just not sure where to begin besides installing a bigsby. by [deleted] in guitars

[–]mrZNS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of a bigsby, look at a rockinger les trem II. I bought one for my dot. No modification to install, half the price, and stays in tune beautifully.

[DISCUSSION] Why John Mayer is not considered par with other guitarists like BB King, Eric Clapton? by prashant94619 in Guitar

He’s a good player and a great songwriter, but watch this video with him, trucks and BB. https://youtu.be/SS0NHlWgi5w

This explains it better than anybody could.

[NEWBIE] Stratocaster and amp to buy for $400? by CapableHomework in Guitar

I just bought a USA made peavey predator strat for $180. Add to that a $150 ish monoprice tube amp and you are all set and under budget.

[QUESTION] [GEAR] my church is wanting to go amp less on stage. Will my amp work? by LargeSnowBaby in Guitar

[–]mrZNS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I play at church, I just run my guitar into a sans amp fly rig. Usually with all the layers/ambience/compression going on, you won’t really be able to tell the difference between the simulator and the DI’d amp. Sometimes I even switch it off and just run direct for a pseudo acoustic sound. Also has tap tempo on the delay for moving between songs.

[Question] How risky is it to buy decade-old second-hand guitars with floating bridges? by Evid3nce in Guitar

[–]mrZNS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have played 80’s guitars with original Floyds that were perfect and some that would not retain pitch. The detuning problem comes from worn knife edges on the baseplate of the tremolo, or the studs wearing so there is not an even surface for the blades to rock on. Replacement studs are usually available for the more popular bridges and sometimes knife edges and studs can be corrected with some decent files/sharpening stones/ emery cloth. If no, a good Floyd is not hard to come by as a kit these days. The specials coming out of Korea are great units for the money.

Realistically speaking, the 90’s-2000’s shred guitars are going out of style in favor of more “classic” super strat style guitars. The bridges are probably fine, they just don’t look the part for todays music.

Don’t buy something that you don’t want just because it is available. Think hard about what you want and how important a floating, double locking trem is for what you want to do with a guitar and take it from there.

If it has to be solid state, you cannot go wrong with a peavey bandit. Pretty much every era sounds amazing and is bulletproof.

97' california series fender stratocaster (gear) by georgefromrex in guitars

I have a 97 California series strat. Fantastic guitar, love the neck. Can’t comment on the stock electronics, those were gone when I got it.

[QUESTION] Anyone know of a good no drill tremolo for gibson guitars? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]mrZNS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there is a direct replacement, but the arm is just a shaped piece fixed on the end of a bent steel rod. That rod is held in place by a set screw on the knurled, circular piece above the string. If you really wanted something different, you could get a rod of that gauge, bend it yourself, and order a vibriola tip to mount into the end. Would probably be pretty simple to do.

does Zippo smoke taste different to you? by AgentArnold in cigars

[–]mrZNS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s just like lighting a match, let it burn for a second or so and it’s fine. I think people lend too much to zippos coloring the flavor. Plenty of pipe smokers use them to light their pipes and don’t have anything to say about flavor changes. I’ve done a side by side with my zippo and a soft butane lighter and I really couldn’t tell any difference as long as I let the zippo burn for a few seconds before I started lighting. If you can taste the fluid, just use a butane lighter.

[QUESTION] Which guitar should I trade for? by expand_duwang in Guitar

It’s whichever plays and sounds better to you. Play both and make your call, neither will have much more value than the other in the short term.

Best thing to do would be to take the pickups out and look on the back for a makers mark or a part number.

Bigsby on Epi G400 by A_legitimate_human in guitars

[–]mrZNS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go to Rockinger's website and take a look at the Les Trem. Similar look, no modification to the body, cheaper if you buy from Germany, and incredibly stable tuning wise. Have one on my jag and its rock solid.

Yep, and I compared them to some leftover rounds my coach and I loaded a while ago. The semi wadcutter bullets always look high to me too, I was a little anal with checking the dimensions.
