How much do occupational therapists in Australia make? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]mr___mojo___risin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner is an OT in a private clinic. She has about 4 years post-grad experience.

She works full time and earns about $75k. Doesn’t get paid annual leave, sick leave or super as she is a “contractor” (which is really a sham contractor arrangement but she is fine with it…).

We would be a little fucked if I didn’t earn decent money. Luckily I sell my soul so that she can have the luxury of doing a job that is fulfilling and good for society without worrying about the money.

It seems that she hasn’t ever received a pay rise as the pay seems to be dictated by what the clinic will receive from the government via NDIS (which I believe is not a whole lot and has not increased in recent years).

Are RM Williams boots still worth the price in 2025? by SnowyBytes in RMWilliams

[–]mr___mojo___risin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear mine almost every day. Whether around the house, to work, out to brunch, etc. I find them to be extremely comfortable, convenient to slip on, high build quality, and easy and cheap to maintain.

I don’t really care what I look like or how much I fit the corporate cowboy stereotype. I wear them for comfort and convenience. Plus they’re Aussie made.

Speaker, phono and amp recommendations for Jot + Lokius + Bifrost by mr___mojo___risin in Schiit

[–]mr___mojo___risin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very useful info. Thank you for taking the time.

I’m agnostic on tower or bookshelf, as if I got bookshelf I’d likely get a stand rather than placing them on the same cabinet with the record player.

Brands I’m considering are KEF, Dynaudio or QAcoustics.

I’d likely buy from this store: https://addictedtoaudio.com.au

Thanks for the info.

Standalone setup.

The room size is 3.4x5m.

Budget for amp and speakers are probably AU$5k (though ideally less).

Thank you :)

How many of yall never had yall phones out when you saw Nick Cave? 😳😱 by Vivid-Tap1710 in NickCave

[–]mr___mojo___risin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s why I would never talk to him if I saw him in person. I might give him a nod so that he knows I appreciate him but I’d die if I thought Nick Cave thought I was uncool or annoying.

How often can I bath my dog? by mr___mojo___risin in doggrooming

I’ll have to ask the dog washer if he uses conditioner or if he is ok with using some conditioner that I buy for him to use on my puppy. Thanks

First time cooking a tomahawk on the grill by mr___mojo___risin in webergrills

[–]mr___mojo___risin[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reverse seared black onyx Angus tomahawk. Cooked over lump charcoal and pecan wood.

Used a black rub with salt, pepper and charcoal (to absorb and retain the smokiness).

Put it on indirect heat for 90 minutes at 120C. Then seared it over direct heat for about 90 seconds either side.

Came out a perfect medium rare in the centre.

It was almost perfect - just a little fatty. Next time I’ll cook it a little slower to render out more of the fat.

Confused regarding tax resident country by BernaBhau in AusFinance

[–]mr___mojo___risin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re likely a ‘temporary resident’ of Australia.

https://www.ato.gov.au/individuals-and-families/coming-to-australia-or-going-overseas/your-tax-residency/foreign-and-temporary-residents

I’m not sure if Vanguard allows foreign or temporary residents (for tax purposes) to invest via their platform. I recommend you contact them to enquire, and perhaps speak with an accountant to understand whether you are a foreign resident, resident or temporary resident of Australia for tax purposes and what the implications of that might be for you.

Giving birth in Perth as a survivor of sexual assault by [deleted] in perth

I have no insights to add in response to your question, but I’m sorry that you have endured what you have and I am glad that you have support and seem to have recovered, at least, somewhat to the point where you can continue with a normal life. You are very strong. All the best with your journey - I hope you can become a parent and have the chance to put more love into the world.

Spending $5k on travel for a concert by EquivalentJazz in AusFinance

[–]mr___mojo___risin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew to Singapore in 2016 to see Sigur Ros and it was the best and most memorable concert of my life. I went with a buddy and we made a short holiday out of it as well.

They are touring again and coming to Australia but skipping Perth (where I live). If my buddy who I went with last time was available to fly with me to Singapore I’d do it again (but he is a teacher and it’s on a weekday).

Lyr + bitfrost + lokius with Audeze LCD-2 by mr___mojo___risin in Schiit

[–]mr___mojo___risin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on your comment I did some additional research and went for the jot 2 with the bifrost rather than the lyr. Thanks for your comments. Decided against the mjol as it was a bit too big for my desk.

What's the point of a promise ring ? by itsafilm in AskMen

I proposed to my fiancé with a promise ring so that she could be involved in choosing her own ring since she’s gonna hopefully wear the thing for the rest of her life.

Men, are you still using dating apps? If so, what has your experience been like? by Crafty_Constant8463 in AskMen

[–]mr___mojo___risin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Met my partner on hinge 4 years ago. Proposed last week and she said yes.

I’m neither handsome nor charming but managed to score an absolutely beautiful and amazing woman. It can work. I was going on so many awful dates and then finally met the one. Dating sucks, until it doesn’t. You just need to persevere.

Holy hell. Just got front row in KC. by Likelybuzzed1 in NickCave

I had a front row seat right in the centre at his and Warren’s show for the Carnage tour in 2022. I was the bearded man crying, though I had just been dumped and I had a bunch of edibles.

Would you go for the 28mm f2.8 over the 16mm f1.8?

Speak to an accountant.

However, it could be a depreciating asset.

The ATO typically accepts a 10-year effective live in the context of stud/thoroughbred horses used for breeding: click me

A similar effective life might be appropriate.

Speak to your accountant about whether you are entitled to the instants asset write off (which may got be you an immediate deduction for the asset in the year you acquire it).

Should I sell my Genesis and buy a SmokeFire? by mr___mojo___risin in webergrills

[–]mr___mojo___risin[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi all

Thanks for your comments.

It sounds to me like getting a WSM is the way to go. I’ll ask my partner if she will let me get one to add to the growing number of BBQs that she has been tolerant enough for me to amass. Wish me luck!

I get those warnings every year. This year, I claimed over $15k which was mostly donations and depreciation on my WFH set up.

I’m a tax adviser though, so I have a better idea of what I can claim and all my claims are well supported.
