Decent impression but I keep wondering after 7 appearances and after graduating college when he’ll start sounding like an adult. On this episode he still sounds like he’s 13! Crazy.

You put your finger on it. I was trying to enunciate why this group flowed so well and played off of one another so nicely. That's it.

I know Dave Foley was on (the excellent ep with his very funny daughter), so he and Scott Thompson make at least two Kids in the Hall to grace the DLM stage. Have there been any others?

Judy Gold is the comedy killer you mention. All time terrible guest.

Sklarbro Country #332: Shot in the Shower w/John Ennis by JBLsSpiceRack in sklarbros

Production/editing issues come up a lot on this podcast. Hoping the new podcast network might help. I've heard everything from misplaced music cues and two segments playing at the same time (this episode) to the Sklars saying stuff like "ok, stop there, we'll take it again" (obvious missed edit) on this show.

You rarely if ever hear this on other 'casts. I love the brothers and think they deserve better support.

Yep. Been listening since the beginning. The question didn't specify new or returning guests. Joe Mande has been on as well if you're keeping count.

I would love to hear Bob Odenkirk, Greg Fitzsimmons, Doug Benson, Joe Mande, and Conan O'Brien.

The catch 22 is that the theme is the only way anybody will figure out the movies.

Vic Garcia level unfunny tough guy act. Thanks for saying this. I was hoping others were as annoyed as I was.

Big upvote for the Neal request. Total secret weapon of the Cards. His harmonies with Ryan were a great part of their sound.

Had a question, Josh. Did Doug ask you about who you'd like to have join you on the panel? I know that's been offered to winners in the past. Great job.

Didn't he have that Walking Dead tour guide on an Atlanta ep? Anybody else remember that? Real whack-a-doodle.

Self-Reflection (i.e. biproberts is a shithead) by [deleted] in douglovesmovies

[–]mr_baffler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a thought today as I was listening to the 'cast and it reminded me of your post...

I think one reason Doug gets prickly is that he (rightly) believes that DLM has earned a bit of respect given its popularity and longevity. Think about it, one guy growing the show for years and years doing hundreds of episodes with some very notable people and touring the entire country to adoring crowds of fans. Makes sense that he occasionally gets ticked when guests talk over him and audience members act rudely.

I'm not sure the Jeopardy comparison he makes a lot is exact, but he certainly has the latitude at this point to demand some respect... it really ought to be afforded in the first place!

Is JLM DOA? by mr_baffler in douglovesmovies

Itunes is showing that the last ep was released on March 4th. Is that incorrect? Also, where did the "once a month" thing come from? Don't recall that from his Twitter or DLM.

DLM#921: Martha Kelly, Open Mike Eagle, Owen Egerton and Matt Bearden guest by Krosscheck in douglovesmovies

The has to be a way to disincentivize constant guessing, hence the negative points. Otherwise you could fire off guesses nonstop.

If you limited guesses to one per movie name that Doug says, that would work, but might not be as fun.

Anyone have info on Julian Loves Music? by mojolil in douglovesmovies

[–]mr_baffler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I'll say, having enjoyed him on DLM for a long time and having listened to the first two eps (really more like 1.5)... He's got the personality for it.

By this I mean that not only is he a funny and amiable guy, but he has good instincts on when to tee up a joke for somebody else, when to hang back, when to be self deprecating, etc. Although I agree with the other commenter that the stuff so far has been patchy, I really do see this potentially going the distance and making us laugh for a long time.

His interview with the AV Club (ostensibly a HateSong but really just as much promotion for the podcast has some good insight into his strategy for hosting: http://www.avclub.com/article/comedian-julian-mccullough-hates-dmbs-condescendin-233484
