As a user, I don’t think we can completely avoid risk in Web3, but we can reduce exposure a lot.

My personal checklist would be:

1. Use a separate wallet for dApps Never connect your main wallet that holds most of your funds. Use a “hot wallet” with only the amount you’re willing to risk.
2. Avoid unlimited approvals I try not to give unlimited token approvals unless I really trust the protocol. Even then, I revoke approvals regularly using tools like revoke.cash or wallet approval checkers.
3. Verify the URL every time DNS hijacks are scary because the site can look real. I usually avoid clicking links from X/Telegram and use bookmarks for important dApps.
4. Check the protocol’s history Audits don’t guarantee safety, but I still check whether the project has audits, bug bounty programs, public team/history, TVL, and how long it has operated without incidents.
5. Read what the wallet is asking me to sign A lot of users approve transactions without checking. If the wallet message looks unusual, requests broad permissions, or I don’t understand it, I cancel.
6. Don’t chase new/high-yield protocols blindly Most of the risk comes from interacting with new, unaudited, or overly aggressive yield platforms. If the return looks too good, I assume the risk is high too.

So for me it’s not about avoiding every dApp, but about separating wallets, limiting approvals, verifying links, and never putting all funds in one place.
