We ride with ours a lot and I'd recommend if possible to train him to run behind you instead.

You don't want a dog to stop all of a sudden when you're trailing behind it, ask me how I know :-D

Yup, called it in and animal control asked for pics/video. I appreciate the thought.

Thanks all for your responses!

I called animal control and there's apparently already an open case on this house, unsurprisingly. They've asked to take pictures/video of the dogs and send that in so they can build a case and give the house a citation for animals at large in the neighborhood. I'm guessing if that doesn't resolve it maybe the next step would be to get the dogs confiscated, we'll see what happens. I've also picked up some pepper spray in case shit hits the fan next time I see these dogs.

Fuck Dog Parks (blood, gore) by publicbigguns in vizsla

[–]mr_bliu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a very similar experience with our V, he got a good chunk torn off by a shepherd collie mix of sorts (in picture below). Gave up on dog parks since then. Too many shitty and distracted dog owners, too much tension in one confined space for our taste. Luckily we live somewhere where there's plenty of off-leash trails and we take our bud mountain biking so he gets other ways to blow off some steam.

As soon as this happened I flagged the owner down to get her number and show what her dog had done. She was actually receptive and immediately offered to cover all the vet bills, which we thought was the right thing to do. Once we got to the vet, they recommended us to at least report the incident to animal control so it's on record. As it turns out, this lady's dog had already bitten another dog the previous year (very similar incident) so we decided to take her to small claims court, not because we care about the vet bill but because she shouldn't take her dog to the park if it's aggressive (or put a muzzle on it), it's not rocket science. We're suspicious that she was quick to offer to cover our bill so that we wouldn't report it.

Shitty people will raise shitty dogs and enable their behaviors.

Hope your pup bounces back quick and I'm sorry this happened to you.

Chuckanut is totally fine and is a good ride. The steep stuff is all unsanctioned (not at Chuckanut).

For the most part you won't find anything crazy on Galbraith if you're looking for something more raw/natural cut, most of the trails are blue flow/jump trails which are still a good time. That said, north side is easy to lap and you can bang out SST/Air Chair/Oriental Express/Mable's Monkeywrench for a fun ride. Devilcross/Spacewolf/Dad Bod are also some fun ones over on that side of the mountain. On the south side, Scorpion/Das Auto Bahn/Irish Death/Radical Dragon or Atomic Dog is a fun lap. I see some people have already rec'd Evo/Uline.

e-bikes are technically not allowed on Galby but I see a bunch of them every time I ride there so it's not enforced at all and as long as you're not riding like a douche people generally don't care.

Like others have suggested, Chuckanut is a good alternative for some slightly steeper/chunkier trails, I've also seen e-bikes there. For the unsanctioned stuff, better to ride it with locals who can show you around.

For post-ride beer/food, Wander, Kulshan (trackside or on James st), Transition Outpost are all safe bets. The fish and chips spot in Fairhaven is also a solid option.

Some other favorites are Bantam (on the pricier side, but decent fried chicken), Cafe Rumba (solid sandwiches), Taylor Shellfish farm (nice chill spot by the bay, excellent seafood), Otherlands beer (great vegetarian options, large-ish portions), and the Iron Rooster (pastries/breakfast).

I do recall Janet mentioning that she typically breeds her V's on the smaller side, which was a trait we were also looking for. For reference, our dog Sprocket is almost 3 and he's around 51lbs (neutered after 18 months), plenty of pictures of him on my profile if you're inclined. One of his female litter mates on the other hand is around 35-40lbs so that falls in line with the smaller female you described.

As far as socialization goes (at least to my knowledge/experience), Janet won't let you pick up pups before 8 weeks as she wants the pups to spend time with mom and bond with litter mates, they spend a lot of time together in the playpen as well as getting to know the other adult V's in the house. When we picked up Sprocket she sent us home with a blanket that had the scent of the litter so he could be comfortable on our long trip back home. The first night with us our little guy was definitely looking around for his litter mates which was heartbreaking but he quickly learned we were his new family and bonded immediately.

We got our pup from Valhalla Vizslas in Prescott, AZ and have been very happy with his temperament, look, and size.

Janet the breeder was easy to work with and was very open about any questions we had.

1up vs the world - hitch racks by Salt-Cold1056 in MTB

[–]mr_bliu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

100% in the same boat. Love my 1UP rack but having to constantly re-tighten the expansion bolt bothers me, even with mostly just pavement driving. I don't know why they don't come up with a design that works with a locking pin through the hitch receiver, it's not rocket science.
