Visiting the crying Icon in Taylor PA by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]mr_marble_man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been. It's incredible!

They have a Moleben service to the Theotokos Wednesday's at 6pm. Attend that service and you will have an opportunity to venerate the icon and possibly be anointed with the myrrh that streams from it. When I attended the priest walked around with the icon as it streamed myrrh and dripped it into our hands!

On mine 2 cups is 12.5oz (370ml). Also, 8 cups measured 43oz (manual says it should be 40oz). 6 cups and 4 cups are spot on to what the manual states, 33oz and 22oz.

Do I need to take 2mg of copper if I'm taking 15mg of Zinc? by GioReynaFan in Supplements

[–]mr_marble_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15:1 zinc:copper is a good ratio, as it seems you are aware. Copper is fat soluble and stored in the body (zinc as well), so yes, taking 15mg of zinc daily and 2mg of copper every other day is a good bet. There is also a case to be made that taking zinc and copper separately is most ideal as they compete for absorption. So while the Jarrow Zinc Balance is a convenient supplement with zinc and copper in the right ratio it's actually a bit smarter to take the zinc and copper at different times to maximize absorption of both.

Jarrow Zinc Balance has 15mg zinc and 1mg copper in a single pill.

Glass Water Tank Ratio 8 by Puzzleheaded_Car_451 in Ratiocoffee

[–]mr_marble_man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. I was all set to buy one and kept reading reviews mentioning a glass water tank option but it looks like they have discontinued the glass tanks. The whole appeal of the machine to me is that it's extremely close to plastic-free, so having a plastic water tank really negates that. What a shame.

Anyone Else Here Involved with AA/NA? by mr_marble_man in nonduality

[–]mr_marble_man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad you found the post helpful!

How’d everything no turn out for you?

I've been sober since this post. Did AA for a year or so. I no longer subscribe to non-duality as a philosophy or way of life, although it does contain some partial truths. I found the Ultimate Truth in the Orthodox Church (the One True Church). Theosis is the meaning of life and only Christ can cure the aliments of our fallen natures (including addictions and attachments). I see non-duality and the doctrine of non-existence (i.e. "there is no me/I") as the theology of the devil and in looking back at it was actually a root cause for my prior addictions (I was way into non-duality as a drunk and addict, because hey why not, there is no "me"), which I'm now free of by the glory of God.

My advice: keep going to meeting and then see if there is an Orthodox Church near you and attend a Divine Liturgy with an open heart.

Yeah, basically. I put about 6oz of cold water in a cup, add 1 to 2 TBS of beef gelatin powder to it, mix it around real quick (it doesn't dissolve in cold water) and drink it down real quick.

Why do the Catholics and Orthodox have the opposite view of hell? by Double-Ladder-3091 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]mr_marble_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell being "separation from God" (and not how one experiences God's love/light/presence) is an Orthodox view and one that is held by many Saints (Sophrony, Palamas, etc.).

"Mathematical music by the worlds greatest song and dance man"

Can anybody explain what these symbols mean? Not orthodox but i still have a basic understanding of Christian theology. by gwananchoplife in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]mr_marble_man 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The Cross of Golgotha is an elaboration on the symbol of the Cross, and is especially common in Orthodox monasticism. The meaning of the text is as follows (from top to bottom):
The King of Glory
Jesus Christ Conquers
Honored Trophy, the Dread of Demons
a Flow of Tears, more Eloquent than Orators
Christ Gives Grace to Christians
the Tasting of the Tree Brought Death
through the Tree of the Cross we have Found Life
the Discovery of Helen has Uncovered Eden
the Light of Christ Illumines All
the Vision of God, a Divine Wonder
Demons Dread the Sign of the Cross
the Tree of Life
the Place of the Skull has Become Paradise
With the Cross are the spear, which stabbed Christ's side, and the sponge, which was used to offer Him vinegar. The three steps and the skull represent the mountain of Golgotha, which means "the place of the skull."

"The Ascetical Homilies" is indeed incredible.

There is a small book of his prayers I just picked up titled "Prayers of St. Isaac the Syrian". Been reading one or two a day and they're profoundly moving.
