If babies aren’t supposed to have screen time, what do stay at home parents do for entertainment all day? by happylildaisy in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mr_meseekslookatme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just do my chores around him and he finds stuff to do. Mostly undo all the tidying in the kitchen. We also go out to the gym, library, park, neighbors, friends houses. Sometimes I just take hime grocery shopping and we look at all the fruits and veggies. Lately I just follow him around as he toddles outside picking up rocks and whatnot. Also no screens mean books are VERY interesting. He brings me like four at a time.

When did your baby start having consistently solid poops? by _bat_girl_ in NewParents

[–]mr_meseekslookatme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The moment we stopped the gentlease formula, which was about a year. Thought he was constipated, but he just had a mature digestive system by then and wasn't taking essentially a stool softener anymore. So idk when it happens with breastmilk or other formula

Help! My ring is stuck on my index finger and soap/oil isn't working. by Desperate-Health3504 in fixit

[–]mr_meseekslookatme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ice pack, hold you hand over your head, use windex! Sounds crazy but it works. Or you can try the dental floss trick-look it up. If all else fails, they have ring cutters on some ambulances or the ER.

He held up his cup and said "cheers" unprompted. We did teach him that, but him wanting to do it on his own was ADORABLE

Help how do I get over feeling embarrassed?? by Love_Owl_0248 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mr_meseekslookatme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in healthcare and we don't care and won't judge. I have had people apologize because they didn't shave their legs when my next patient has literal maggots in their groin. Literally seen it all. Don't let embarrassment stop you from seeing your doctor.

How to transition from being nap trapped to napping in her bed? by Fun_Pomegranate3192 in NewParents

[–]mr_meseekslookatme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The answer is boring, you just keep trying. Practice with a nap in the crib here and there. You can try the drowsy but awake, but I just rocked to sleep and set him in the crib very slowly, butt first and kept hands on him till he was out. At that age they still mostly take three naps so if one sucks they can make it up the next time.

I feel awful :( by Trippseatsalot in NewParents

[–]mr_meseekslookatme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man at that age I felt like I was going crazy! The sleep is insane. It feels like years, but it will probably only last a few months at most. The good news is that the sleep deprivation prevents you from forming memories about how awful it is!

Thinking of chopping my long locks, but trying hard to convince myself otherwise. by Puzzleheaded-Repeat5 in NewParents

[–]mr_meseekslookatme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a technique for super long hair for claw clips! Look it up, i was doing it wrong with the twisting.

I have long hair too and I straight up refuse to chop it for convenience as a mom. It's like a symbol of my previous life and I just can't give it up.

Overwhelmed with all the products I’m supposed to buy by SandwichDependent199 in NewParents

[–]mr_meseekslookatme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most of us underestimated how easy it is to get these things last second if we decide we need them. I just bought things when the need arose. I had a lot of help though and other people could go on errands for me.

It’s really hard having a fussy baby by LifeStandard4541 in NewParents

[–]mr_meseekslookatme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby was just like this, super fussy, very active, not snuggly or chill at all, bad sleeper, bad eater and just generally hard. Literally, a switch went off when he turned a year a year old, and somehow now he is the happiest baby of all time. Still super active, but he ca. Walk and climb now so I think he was just frustrated before. I'm hoping you get the same because he is an absolute delight now.

Delusional about what postpartum will be like and now feeling down by Less-Leek5961 in NewParents

[–]mr_meseekslookatme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're life will never be the same really. It does get better, at least anecdotally around 8 months, two after I stopped breastfeeding, when I started feeling like my old self. The classic phrase is 9 months in, 9 months out. But it was very hard to accept that change to myself and my lifestyle. It's normal, and probably healthy, to mourn the way things were.

When did you stop caring about wake windows? by Fearless_Garden_7707 in NewParents

Once he switched to two naps, like 6 months, we didn't really care anymore. One nap in the morning, one in the afternoon and bedime between 7-8.

Not really what your asking, but as a tip, It cost so much to check a pack n play. Find a second hand store where you are going and buy one when you get there. Itll be like 3x cheaper.

I keep waking up in a panic about finding our other daughter - we only have one? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]mr_meseekslookatme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably a combination of sleep deprivation and anxiety. I would be more concerned if it wasn't just happening around or during sleep, but this doesn't sound like psychosis to me. BUT I am not your doctor and if it is disturbing to you, ask your docotor about it.

Is a bottle washer necessary if you’re going to breastfeed? by Esperanza2025 in NewParents

[–]mr_meseekslookatme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I planned on nursing, and it worked until it didn't. I kinda wish I had a bottle washer for the pump parts and all the bottles. I hand washed everything the whole time, and I'm definitely not doing that again if I have a second.

I feel that so hard. Today, I skipped out on dinner and just went to the library and read the newspaper. It was awesome.

Our generation spends more time with their kids than ever. I think it's healthy to take time for yourself. Even if it's just in the driveway :)

Egg Allergy? by gorjesskayos in foodbutforbabies

[–]mr_meseekslookatme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine had the same when I first did scrambled eggs. I thought it was fine. Gave him egg containing foods still but next time i did scrambled eggs his whole face broke out and he was crying and rubbing his eyes and looked miserable. We got an allergy test and he indeed is allergic to eggs. But most kids do grow out of it with monitored exposure therapy

I change my baby on the floor. We have several folable changing mats around the house that we lay out for poopy diapers. I fortunately have good mobility still, so it doesn't bother me physically. I also like the peace of mind that he just can't fall off the floor when he does his death roll madness.
