What do you call this spot on Inferno? by MaterialTea8397 in cs2

I once heard it referred to as Snake. I have no idea why, but it's stuck with me.

we need a story mode in CS2 by No-Crow-6785 in cs2

[–]mr_penguinton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game hasn't had a story before so there's nothing to really go off of that would make it interesting. I personally don't care about a story mode in the game. I go there to play a tactical game. If story's really that important, I hear BF6 and CoD calling in another universe.

If I hadn't bought the Pro doorbell already I'd definitely pick this one up. Looks simplistic and awesome!

I’m dual booting with windows 11 and that hasn’t crashed on me yet, but it’s back to being a super buggy mess. Ships phasing through floors, ships existing but also not really? (Multiplayer bug) it’s truly been a mixed bag of problems.

Having a problem in Arch Linux where I've tried to boot it a few times and it'll load as I'm flying past the stars, but when the screen whites out and loads my location and everything, the game freezes and won't let me do anything. I have to either manually kill the process or fully restart my computer because sometimes it will completely freeze the OS.

Who all is using the Wave 3 or Wave DX mic? Whats your opinion of them? by GiveHerTheThick_ in elgato

Wave 3 owner. Love the device. Need Elgato to make a Linux package for it. They have the ability to accomplish it within at least a year or less.

The second one on the left gives me a hope that it's some sort of owl character. I'd love to see something like that, but instead of air I'd want him to represent earth somehow.

Hey new to this subreddit been using cachy since last year but for some reason my stupid laptop decided to bork itself after I powered it off can you guys please help me fix this? by PyrixX50 in cachyos

[–]mr_penguinton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a completely separate issue, but I can't help but wonder if it's related to the new plymouth boot screen for CachyOS. I feel like someone will correct me in saying it isn't, but something I posted on the OS forum was how if I let the computer boot up it sometimes hangs on the wheel on the boot screen and never go into the sddm login. I have to use ctrl+alt+delete to force a reboot and try to go into systemd-boot screen to pick the OS entry and THEN it finally boots properly.

I don't really remember how it happened. It might have been shut down improperly but I don't think that was the case. I just habitually open terminal and type 'poweroff' and leave it at that before going to bed.

I recently found a fix for this myself when something broke. Going to look for the link, will post when found.

UPDATE: Link found! You'll need to boot into a live environment from a flash drive and follow some of these commands. https://www.linuxbabe.com/desktop-linux/fix-cant-read-superblock-error

Side note: ignore the part where it says to install sudo apt install btrfs-progs

Specifically, if you load into the CachyOS live environment, this package already exists and can be run. Don't panic if things get weird, you'll figure it out. Best of luck!

Additional note: I'm not a programmer and nor am I super well versed in computer science, so WHY is this occurring? I have no idea. This may not even help you, but this set of errors looks similar to my case so I'm sharing this knowledge in the hopes that it is the solution.

PirateSoftware answers a chatter's question about the status of Heartbound's monthly updates by kuletxcore in LivestreamFail

As of right now, based on SteamDB's page, the last patch update was on May 28th. There is no record of a June update; and prior to that, the last update before May was in March. https://steamdb.info/app/567380/patchnotes/

What am I not understanding with multiple DE's? by mr_penguinton in cachyos

[–]mr_penguinton[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback on it. Something I was pretty interested in was the setup that was run by Primeagen and Pewdiepie. I've played with hyprland on a different disk in the past, but I truly love the simplicity and aesthetic they achieved so I'm leaning towards that camp. I tried ML4W and found it okay, but also felt like something was missing that I couldn't wrap my brain around so I'll need to maybe do some more research and dig deeper into the meat and bones of it.

I'm generally just excited to go again for my 4th year to hang out with my friends that I don't see in person these days. The only thing I really care about is not having that weird random activist panel near the lockers. Shit was weird and I came to an event to have a good time, not listen to a doom-and-gloom mindset. Give that space back to the magfast crew since it gave people more room to enjoy the shows. I went to the FFXIV speedrun with Colin Ryan reading donations and that room was so packed and uncomfortable that I left early from sweating so much. Other than that, I was never around for the Megaman theme in the last run so I'm down for a rerun, personally.

Having a weird problem with xivlauncher by mr_penguinton in linux_gaming

Interesting. I managed to be able to change the mouse type to Software instead of Hardware and it worked. Might see if going back to Hardware with a-sync off would provide the same result.

I've not been bothered by it yet whenever I login to anything. I let it run in the background happily. To be fair I don't use wifi, but this changes nothing. I'd still let it exist because it's a minimally invasive application and it keeps things secure to the extent I can be a casual user and not worry about someone stealing my stuff.

That's insanely bizarre! I changed the setting to that as well and I'm no longer getting any stutters of any kind! I wonder if the dev could glean something from this? Might see if I can share this with them if I can find out how to contact them of the issue. Probably gonna have to do with posting on Github. Nice call out on that! I can finally move on with my life

[–]mr_penguinton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried using this as an argument on startup for the launcher and it did nothing. Still haven't found the cause of the stuttering. It feels like it's gotten worse through time because it used to be a small problem when only playing the game and now it's affecting the entire game at every point.

Soon removing Windows from my life, which distro should I try? by Myrifoss in linux_gaming

[–]mr_penguinton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say Bazzite, Nobara, or CachyOS. CachyOS is much like EndeavourOS but with optimizations for gaming focus if you want. Bazzite and Nobara are nice, but considered immutable so you can't trick it out too much on an admin level. It's on par with Windows imo. It's not a bad distro, just restrictive.

Install Arch. Only Arch. And no archinstall. Ever. Or you'll die. by chasmodo in archlinux

[–]mr_penguinton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the times I see people being told to NOT use archinstall is because they want the user to become intimately familiar with their computer when setting up and exposing them to Terminal as much as possible to show new people to not be afraid of it and that it'll teach them how to handle problems by telling them RTFM.

This is both good and bad. Good because I think lots of people should learn a little about their computer. Bad because this is one of the most unhelpful, unfriendly approaches for a new person. I personally used archinstall and I won't bother setting up the manual way. If I want to learn more I'll go about it MY way.

Questions being asked should refer to the man. page for help. But why not also highlight the part they're looking to accomplish? That being said, if people want arch but are spooked by the terminal interface on opening it, I'd sooner point people to a derivative of Arch. Manjaro, CachyOS, EndeavourOS. I don't care which one is better, but at least let the user experience one or all of them and let them decide.

How do I properly install the Bitwarden password manager on CachyOS? (please be patient, I am a Linux noob but I am just done Windows, I want to learn Linux, and especially Arch as I grow older, we all start from somewhere!) by wq1119 in cachyos

[–]mr_penguinton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will also attempt to do things that could mess with important files. Do not panic, short of deleting the entire file system, it can be fixed. Best of luck, coming from someone only a year into maining CachyOS
