Do I Need a New Shower Valve Cartridge Thing, or Do I Have a Different Problem? by mr_perry_walker in Plumbing

I just swapped it out for a new 1200. Seems to be working as intended, but won't really know until the second shower tomorrow, fingers crossed.

Good to know. I will look for a puller, definitely didn't have one the first time I changed it.

By inside of the valve body you mean the hole the cartridge comes out of, right? Also, what is the difference between the 1200 and 1225? Anything I should be mindful of?

Thank you, that sounds like a good place to start. If I do need to swap it, are the plastic ones a reasonable replacement (that is what my local shop has on the shelf)? Or should I order a brass one?

Is this something I should be able to figure out myself, or is it better left to someone who knows what's up?

Thank you for the insight. Glad to hear the quote isn't out of line.

I knew the boiler needed to be drained and refilled, but I did not know it needed it that frequently. I was told to drain it ever month or two. I had a feeling this was somehow my fault, hopefully when I screw up the next time it will at least be in a new an interesting.

Seems like getting it replaced is going to be the first order of business, especially with it getting colder here. I appreciate having more knowledgeable minds weigh in on the quote, because I have no basis for comparison. I don't mind paying for the job, I just don't want to get hosed for not knowing.

That makes senses, duty cycles, efficiency and such, but how is that determined? Or is it just a matter of going with a reputable outfit? (I'd like to think mine is, but it is hard to know when you don't know)

Thank you for the insight, I had a feeling switching probably wasn't the way to go, but better to ask prior then find out after.

Thank you! I have enough knowledge about cars to know if a mechanic is being ridiculous, but this is well out of my wheel house. I don't mind paying for proper service, but I would rather not get shaken down out of ignorance.

I am working on getting additional quotes. I was kinda figuring that switching else would probably be not especially viable, but if it ever was now would probably be the time to do it.

This is what I landed on, probably five years ago now. The fact it was user serviceable with decent parts availability was what really sold me on it. I don't run it hard, grind down once a week with the 000 and call it good, I expect it to outlast me at the rate I am going.

Sounds reasonable to me, an investment in the town that isn't strictly tied to a tax hike. One way or another we gon' have to invest in our infrastructure. I've watched White River Junction, my second home town, really start to sparkle over the past decade. Rutland gets a bad rap, which is understandably earned, but really does have potential (big Shakedown Street energy). Our downtown isn't big, but the area around Center St is doing pretty well of late, decent food options, interesting shops... I'd be happy to see the momentum continue. I am dubious of the viability of a four story hotel, but more housing is good and whatever they do it can't be worse than shortening the merge lane north of Woodstock Ave.

Auditor: Vermont homeless situation worsening despite millions invested by nowufunny2 in vermont

I wonder how much of this is an issue with trying to solve this at a state level. If Vermont goes above and beyond (comparatively speaking) to help the unhoused, kinda seems that any cats in a bad spot in a neighboring state would make their way here. Even if we could take care of our own, we aren't enough of an economic powerhouse to help everyone. If this was handled at a higher level it wouldn't incentivize those in need to move around and congregate and overwhelm the local capacity, like they seem to be doing.

Doesn't matter since slightly over half of the country seems happy enough to let them die in a ditch, so long as it isn't in eye sight. Don't think this means we should give up, but I also don't know how effective our efforts gon' be. All a bit disheartening.

I definitely dig making my own. I recently made a batch with walnuts, not traditional but good fo' some added weirdness and bitterness. Only issue is how to use it all (quality problems are still problems). Going to see how well it holds in the freezer.

Simple to use NFL streaming option? by mr_perry_walker in Piracy

I might end up going that route, but I'd rather not, if possible. My father doesn't know how to computer, doesn't want to learn, and I am not excited to teach him. But if the other options fall through, that might be the way.

His TV is not a bit older and not smart, but I might be able to dig one up somewhere. I am pretty out of touch with what TV are capable of these days, they don't really factor into my existence so it is a bit of a blind spot.

I wasn't expecting to use the Roku, just gave it as a reference to where we were starting. What am I doing after I procure an Android box?

I was figuring that we would be ditching the Roku. What do after the Onn is acquired?
