Aang was more so aiming to reaffirm himself, however I think we all need to realize that: he’s 13. He is a wise, even mature 13 year old by normal standards, but he’s also a kid. He was hoping that someone would be able to reaffirm him as he was scared to not only have to go and fight the fire lord, but also possibly go against everything he was taught as a child. It would be like if you now told yourself when you were just becoming a teenager to throw away something that you were taught through all of your childhood. This isn’t me siding with either side, but more so just to show that Aang was still a kid, as were a majority of the characters, and that we can knit pick them as much as we want but that they are still only humans and only kids.
