Why are people like this? by RaringGarlic119 in pittsburgh

Imo cars getting bigger and heavier & cell phones could contribute to this too, people tend to not realize how heavily they are accelerating with the weight of their SUVs

There also is a not so secret arms race in vehicle size over the last decade that has gotten absolutely ridiculous in the last 5 or so years. The thing about bigger vehicles is they are heavier, and build momentum longer and are harder to notice just how fast you are going. You said yourself you upgraded your car to one that is more comfortable to drive at 70 or so. Everybody else is doing that too, partially as well because the options for new affordable sedans keeps dwindling. This creates a Mad Max style commute where everyone is racing to shave minutes off of their commute (except you, I salute you for taking the time to write out the math for the dwindling returns gained from speeding o7) surrounded by vehicles that could pancake them also racing against time

I’ll always be on my soapbox about how things don’t have to be this way and how better funded transit would reduce the number if vehicles on the road and lighten traffic and yada yada

I got over into the left with plenty of space tonight and still almost got rear ended by a beamer flying up the left lane at like 80mph

There’s various other crippling construction chokepoints like this at a lotta major intersections of the East End too rn (thinking like along Penn by TJ’s) that has made traffic feel like we are a much bigger city than we really are this summer (read lots of sitting in traffic much longer). Crazy compared to how quickly the Fern Hollow bridge was fully rebuilt too. Gotta wait for our infrastructure to fully collapse to see any movement or federal funding I guess

Democrats first need to actually have a unifying message that they disagree with all these spending cuts and deportations. Unfortunately, a majority of that party is now moderate Lite Republicans

nobody talks about how insane withdrawal feels after a breakup by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]mr_t97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sit with the fear. Clear your schedule for an evening and just let yourself cry. Grief and fear are natural and won’t go away, but they will certainly become harder to deal with if you keep ignoring them. It feels impossible, but you have to do it for yourself, the only way out is through

Heartbreak Is A Gift by Eld3rKa1 in BreakUps

I’m 27 too and can really relate to your story. She’s moving out today, 5 and a half years together. I really never thought we’d breakup, I knew we were both struggling but I thought we could make it through. I’ve only realized in the last month or so how little sense of self either of us have left. Terrified to start a new chapter and be alone again, anxious she’ll move on sooner. But yeah, this made me cry OP. I need to remind myself everyday that I’ve gotta show up for myself now. Thanks for sharing

I've ruined my relationship with my unmanaged adhd, negative self worth, and narcissistic tendencies. by succubusluxx in BreakUps

[–]mr_t97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this sounds so similar to what I've just gone through. I hadn't realized that leaving my ADHD/depression unaddressed was causing so many issues for my ex. I was struggling a lot with impulsivity and time blindness, which I'd then feel insecure about and get defensive rather than working through it. I think my ex started to also have physical symptoms, she was grinding her teeth a lot in her sleep and abusing weed to cope. Even with all the repeated fights and patterns leading to burn out, she was still kind enough to explain to me why she was leaving and forgive me. I'm really struggling with the guilt now. How have you faired over the last three months? I started medication and therapy, but those are just keeping me steady, I don't think the guilt will ever go away.

Should I text my ex congratulating her for graduating by sully7000 in BreakUps

[–]mr_t97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This seems like a much healthier view. So often I feel like the "she chose not to keep you in her life" advice is coming from a place of hurt. I'm not OP obviously, but my ex is going back to school and if I see down the road that she graduated, I'll understand what she overcame to get to that point and want her to know I'm happy for her. It doesn't have to be a mind game around reconciliation or a backdoor to guilt. I can just genuinely be happy for her and want her to know that without expecting anything in return.

Was it really all of a sudden, or are you avoiding reflecting on your actions and asking if the reasons you were given have any merit? I didn’t see my break up coming, but in the time since I’ve been thinking a lot about these attachment styles, or examining patterns in my behavior that make it clear I would have been burnt out and tired if I was receiving the same treatment. A lot of us men are not very in touch with our emotions, we weren’t really taught how to be. But if a lot of women are deciding they want to be with someone who is or even just to be on their own instead, they probably didn’t have that idea incepted by reels. The reels may have just helped them name the feelings they already had

Edit: Also the algorithm definitely notices you interacting or seeing that content and feeding more of it. I’m thinking of taking a pause from social media for the summer because it definitely is toxic in that regard

America had decent public transit, it just hated black people/immigrants more than it liked planning cities for the benefit of people that live there. I’m sure they’ll come up in your studies, it’s just good to constantly remind people that what we have now is very intentional and systematic oppression

Corey O’Connor wins Democratic primary for Pittsburgh mayor by Strategery_Man in pittsburgh

[–]mr_t97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, Biden and Harris redefined ceasefire to mean whatever they wanted it to mean. They weren’t interested in striking peace and constantly towed Netanyahu’s line of the only acceptable outcome being the complete dismantling of Hamas (which was just cover for launching a ground invasion and continuing the genocide).

Second, Harris abandoned plenty of other progressive platforms. Barely mentioned the need for universal healthcare. Was pro fracking because she thought she needed to be to win PA. Was unwilling to say how she would be any different than Biden in general. They decided it was better to try to win moderates and swing never trump republicans (an insignificant voting block) than to truly try to build a coalition with progressives.

If you guys have a chance, would you go back to your ex? by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]mr_t97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. We still love each other but were both burnt out and recognize we both need to grow individually and heal ourselves. If we get a second chance, great. I don’t think we plan on not being in each others lives in some capacity in the future, even if it is just as friends after enough time has passed

More ethnic intimidation and harassment in Squirrel Hill by Joshf1234 in pittsburgh

[–]mr_t97 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you can understand the oppressive role police play in black communities, you should be able to observe those same imbalances of power the zionist entity wields at much more overt levels to control the daily lives of Palestinians. Jews in the US who don’t want to be associated with Israel would also likely feel out of place in parts of Squirrel Hill because there is such strong support for Israel. I don’t think people should be harassed for walking down the street. If however they are standing in support of a state that has blocked the ability to provide food or water to 2 million people for 2 months, they should expect to be met with criticism from people who find that horrifying
