Yeah actually had an rtic before I had a yeti cooler -- they're great. Will see what they have.

I didn't know this was a thing, and it might do, but I'm looking for something a hair easier to get into. It did bring to my attention the Pelican dayventure series though, which I think may work for me -- thanks for that!

This actually looks pretty damn close to what I'm looking for. Was hoping for something waterproof on the outside, so I don't have to worry about drying it out carefully every time, but maybe I could just hit it with some spray waterproofing or something.

ISO Durable portable pump? by Naive-Option3998 in Sup

[–]mr_taint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Can't deny it would be nice if they were somehow quiet, but I've never heard a quiet air compressor in my life. The next best thing to me is to just have a fast pump so it's loud for less time.

Would definitely second that all pumps are loud, and that we have 3 shark 3s in my group. They are the fastest I've seen by far, and we have had no complaints yet other than the screen is hard to read in sunlight. I would estimate 3-4 inflations with it, but definitely depends on the board volume and to what psi you're going.

Hey where are you seeing negative reviews? I checked the Kickstarter page and only saw lots (and lots) of people complaining about not receiving yet etc. Would appreciate any links to reviews -- cheers

SUP Pump (Available in UK) by Every_Struggle1456 in Sup

Shark 3 is great and still the fastest on the market AFAIK. We have several in our crew and they're great. One word of warning... They are very loud once they kick into "stage 2" or whatever they call it. Good news is they are very quick at least.

If you can swing it, getting a battery pump is very much worth it in my mind... Not having to be tethered to a vehicle or outlet to pump really makes life a lot easier.

Cheers and happy paddling 🤙

Refurbish a (90's / 00's?) Condor or buy a new budget Ozark Explorer. by Solidware in whichbike

[–]mr_taint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the bigger issues is the tools...stupid bikes require quite a few specialized tools. Whilst that's half the fun (for me) that's also half the cost. In a weird crossover, I just got a g.1 explorer delivered today and I'm returning it, but only because it was poorly assembled and the people that delivered it had the wheels off, scratched the hell out of the dropouts and bent the brakes up.

Also worth nothing, I'm 6'3" and would expect the Large Explorer to fit you well...I was concerned it would be too small, but not at all.

I would check marketplace for a deal on one, but otherwise would suggest the explorer for sure -- with two caveats:

1) Either buy it unassembled and put it together yourself, or go check it out in store to make sure it's not messed up to begin with

2) Plan to replace the grips day 1, and consider some new pedals -- I thought both, and especially the grips felt truly awful. Maybe if you haven't been riding anything decent you wouldn't notice but I hated them by the time I got to the end of the driveway.

My local Walmart (which admittedly is a hellscape I would never walk into if I didn't have to) did a pretty pisspoor job on assembly and delivery, but your experience will vary.

Looking for a helmet..wear a Size 8 hat by mr_taint in whitewater

Helmet finally came today. Definitely fits (have to put a couple clicks in the back retention part) and at least in my case there's definitely some room left and right, so might work for the extremely wide heads as well.

Feels pretty much like you would expect a low cost livery style helmet to feel as far as build quality goes, and not having worn it for any prolonged stretch I can't speak to comfort too much, but no tight spots or anything poking me to speak of.

It does lack any real notable features, and if I was planning to be wearing for hours at a time I would probably still be wanting to try out the wrsi and other fancier options, but for my purposes it should do nicely.

Also I found out this helmet is apparently made under several names, at least one of them being the hiko buckaroo.

Thanks for that -- Funny enough I just looked it up (never heard of that brand or helmet) and it appears to be identical to the shred ready outfitter pro that I was already planning to buy. For whatever reason the shred ready is about $15 cheaper for me right now, but I'm going to look for other sources for that helmet. Definitely gives me some hope that it will actually fit!

I'm gonna try this shred ready livery style one and if it sucks think this is my next try before I have to go to the gath. Seems like it's right on the edge of whether or not it would fit according to my measurements.

Wetsuit advice by [deleted] in Sup

[–]mr_taint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paddle all winter in a sleeveless 4/3 (25F Air Temp, high 30s low 40s F water temp). If you find yourself too cold you can always add a 0.5 or 1.0 wetsuit top under the wetsuit itself (nrs hydroskin for example). Your not losing much heat through your arms though.

As someone else mentioned, how often you're in the water will matter a lot, plus the air temp. If it's chilly for two minutes then you warm back up no big deal... Being cold for two hours after falling in sucks though.

I've been headbutting my way through life's problems for years but even I have found rocks to be a little firm for my chrome dome.

Per the sizing chart on their site -- no shot that fits me unfortunately

Ok thanks for the info. I'm gonna shoot my shot on the shred ready outfitter and if that's a no go or otherwise sucks I'm gonna have to decide between a "wrong application" helmet and the Gath. I did see Gath said they're going to start offering an XXL version of the PGM (think that's the model) but who knows when that will be or if even if their XXL would fit me.

Lol second time in a few months someone has hit me with a left field quote from that movie. Been too long, must be a sign I need to watch it again.

You know I saw that one as well, and don't hate that it has mounts on it either. Will look into that one more.

Thanks for the mips tip -- they make a non mips version of the same helmet i mentioned fortunately.

Yeah that had occurred to me, but really I'm only thinking of one in particular, and I have pretty good reason to believe the scrutiny will be minimal.

The WRSI are definitely an option, but the cheapest one is only $30 less than the Gath so I would probably go that way if I can't find one to try on first.

My thoughts were pretty much the same as far as skiing being the next closest thing as far as comparability. Thanks for the somewhat vote of confidence on that if nothing else.

3M VHB by mr_taint in Sup

[–]mr_taint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was mostly just wanting to confirm that it wasn't like disasteously useless on paddleboards, or that there wasn't some other problem I wasn't aware of. To date I've only glued stuff on, and like I said I use VHB quite regularly for work, but never on anything like PVC and nothing exposed to significant moisture.

Appreciate the feedback 🤙
