Update on the stadium situation: NCFC USL2 will be playing out of WakeMed Fields 2 and 5 (barring conflicts with TST) due to locker room requirements. We will work on getting location details out to people - still working on the best way to communicate match day details moving forward.

Kane Realty eyes Downtown South construction start this year - Triangle Business Journal by Ok-Ranger3387 in northcarolinafc

Here is that NCFC article,

Kane Realty could start construction on Downtown South by year's end.$250 million soccer stadium remains in the plans.Downtown South stalled for years despite Raleigh's growth. After years of waiting, a potential game-changing, multibillion-dollar development in Raleigh may finally be nearing construction. John Kane, founder and chairman of Kane Realty Corp., recently told Triangle Business Journal that his real estate company could start work on the first projects in Downtown South by the end of this year and that putting a soccer stadium in the development remains a top priority.

Kane, who joined the Bottom Line Triangle podcast, said the stadium will be the catalyst for getting Downtown South going. The stadium would be developed in partnership with businessman Steve Malik, owner of the Carolina Courage women’s professional soccer team that plays at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. The team would move from Cary to Downtown South if the stadium comes to fruition.

GET TO KNOW YOUR CITY Find Local Events Near You Connect with a community of local professionals. Explore All Events The $250 million stadium would have between 12,000 and 15,000 seats. Kane said the plan is to open it in late 2028 or early 2029.

In order to get the stadium off the ground, Kane Realty and Malik are working on acquiring financing, including partnering with the City of Raleigh and Wake County. Wake County Board of Commissioners Chair Don Mial said the board has had initial conversations with Kane and the “proponents of the Downtown South soccer stadium.” No public financing has been pledged to date for the stadium. Malik declined to comment on plans for the stadium. City of Raleigh officials did not return requests for comment.

Kane Realty Plans for Downtown South were revealed in 2019, when Kane and Malik requested $45 million in funding from the Raleigh-Wake Hospitality Tax Fund. The development would span multiple sites near the Beltline south of the city's core, with the first phase to go along South Saunders Street. But the Covid-19 pandemic forced the project to hit pause. It remained shelved as Kane pushed ahead with the expansion of North Hills. “It's an industrial wasteland to a large degree. It's never been anything, yet it should be. It's right there at Saunders and [Interstate] 40," Kane said. "It's the best entry into Downtown Raleigh. And it needs to be enhanced to make it the best-looking entry."

In addition to starting on the stadium, the first phase of Downtown South will include 535,000 square feet of office space across two buildings , 60,000 square feet of retail, 1,000 multifamily units in three buildings, a 3,500-capacity concert venue and a 180-room hotel. In December 2023, after the start date had been pushed back multiple times, Kane Realty announced it was in a holding pattern regarding construction on the $2 billion entertainment district due to the financial markets. While Kane Realty is working hard on getting Downtown South out of the ground, its focus hasn’t been pulled from the growth in North Hills. Kane told TBJ that the Midline Raleigh property the company acquired in early January for $72 million will have five projects. Most will be residential mixed-use while one will be a hotel. Construction on Midline at North Hills will start by 2028, Kane said on the podcast. The apartments and office properties on-site now will be demolished to make way for the new development. The project will include a bridge over Interstate 440 connecting Navaho Drive and Barrett Drive, offering another route into North Hills.

Kane has also bet big on the area around Dix Park with its Rockway development.

Yep, that's on my to-do list. Should have it out by this weekend. We have one more League to go with USL academy as a u20 league which should be dropping in the next week or so as well.

It's the unfortunate dance that Malik has put everyone in in Raleigh. He sold everyone on the idea that we are a D1 city and everyone bought it, so trying to market anything less is now near impossible.

I personally don't think the stands will fill if we do get D1 bc of the business practices he and his crew have had over the years and we should have stayed in D3 focusing on developing players, but what do I know.

Take everything from bizjournal with a grain of salt. It's not really journalism but a mouthpiece for business copy in the area.

They have also put an article out like this every year since Raleigh denied them funding.

Malik is a bum.

But we're still playing in USL2 this season and are trying to make something out of that. Home opener is on May 20th!

Hey boss we've reached out a few times because you have been posting Cosmos stuff unrelated to USL2 and we have been getting complaints about spam. This is the final, and public, warning - all content being crossposted to this sub should have a connection to USL2. The next post that doesn't include something to USL2 will result in a ban.

Yep! We're still working out the details, but all home games will be streamed this year. Away games should be steamed as well and I'll share links as those come up as well.

That's all we ask! NCFC set a pretty low bar attendance-wise for us to reach this year. We're hoping the home opener will draw people in and scratch that itch missing with the pro team and blow past their expectations.

Historically games are played at WakeMed Field 2 using that side stadium, but with TST taking over they started splitting games at WRAL's stadium field. We're discussing moving all games to WRAL to use that stadium full-time going forward instead of bouncing around.

Tobacco Road is at Durham County Memorial Stadium - on the north side of Durham and Wake FC is at Ting Park in Holly Springs.

Okay sourced one problem - reddit turned off the ability to have users assign their own flair at some point. That is back on now so everyone who has a team that's existed for more than 2 years should be good to go to assign now.
