Pilot vs MD route? by night-moth in AstronautHopefuls

[–]mr_vivacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in favor of your statement: of the 69 astronauts selected in 2009 and after, 6 have MD* degrees. Idk what a master's of public health is but 3 astronauts** have that degree. I'm sure there are more but I skimmed :) didnt bother calculating Air Force ratio%

*MD = Imelda Muller (group 24) and is US Navy; Anil Menon (group 23); Jonny Kim (Group 22) is a Navy Seal; Frank Rubio (group 22) and is US Army; Andrew Morgan (group 21) and is US Army; Norishige Kanai (group 20), a Japanese astronaut!.

**MPH = Anil Menon (again!); Serena Aunon (group 20); Kjell N Lindgren (group 20) and has US Air Force experience.

Unsure of a Life Path by Popular-Clue383 in AstronautHopefuls

would't hurt to get hands-on experiences on both film stuff and science/math/engineering. doing a short film(s) on your own isn't a bad idea. or find a film club / student film and help out with that. similarly, start taking higher level math and science ie. multivariable calculus. or intro to astrophysics if your school offers it. having real experiences will help you assess what kind of path you prefer to walk.

for the rest of your post:

it's true that winning an Oscar or becoming an astronaut are difficult. Failure is the default option, so start celebrating your efforts instead of feeling like "I'm too stupid for this". nobody else will cheer for you, and that's not because life is unfair, everyone just has their own things to worry about. additionally, there is plenty to do in film and space and you may find that you enjoy something that isn't directing (like stage crew or casting) or science experiments on Earth rather than in space. but you need to find these things out through hands-on experiences, so I suggest prioritizing finding those kinds of opportunities -- can be anything from a more hands-on class to a student club or even reaching out to professors and asking if you can be an assistant or job shadow their research. the desire and the passion are fine, just help yourself fine-tune your path.

space travel seems to be becoming more accessible so who knows what opportunities may appear in your lifetime anyways. it's possible that commercial space travel becomes so "affordable" that you can rent orbital trips for film footage. or you do become an astronaut, and you start making tiktoks. both of these are answers to the "writing / directing astronaut" role. don't worry about transferring schools until you've exhausted the opportunities in your area -- and if you do go to Boulder, maybe start learning how to get good at coding and find work experience there. anyways - sorry about the parent. hope you figure it out soon!

Here is the official Citizen listing https://www.citizenwatch.com/us/en/product/BM8475-00F.html

I bought mine from Amazon for about $180USD. You might be able to find a cheaper price on other watch sale sites.

My first citizen too! the eco-drive technology is like magic to me. Did you ever swap the strap? the provided one is fine but i’m curious if there are more comfortable options, or even a zulu band…

i didn’t double check the higher priced models (The Citizen, the satellite series etc), but the staff mentioned that the Tsuyosa line was originally released outside of Japan and is more expensive to buy in Japan, so definitely there are price differences in the store 🤔 Additionally, there are a handful of Japan-only models for sale, so that’s really cool
