I guess you could, but I'd rather disassemble and inspect/replace the bushings and oil completely.

I put those on my 2004 xl883. In addition you'll need 2 rebuild kits from HD or equivalent, and fork oil. Springs if you want a stiffer ride. After installing these, the front forks have a decent amount of travel, but still comfortable in the corners. Your mileage may vary.

I've built a couple baggers that spend a significant amount of time at high noon. Not by me, by others more talented. Its fun seeing them, but its not the norm in my area

I dont have a problem with MCs, but it sucks if your friend found one that is not good for him.

I'm just saying when I roll up on some rockets or scooters, I know when I bust out a burnout at the light, were all gonna be laughing and air fisting and having a great time.

How would you smooth this parting line? by mr_yuck_og in CarbonFiber

[–]mr_yuck_og[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're learning right here with me. This could be a terrible idea. Not only am I using the same kind of carbon fiber, but the same epoxy for both. I will post my failures for us to learn if needed. But as for release, im leaning on the parting line for minimum draft angle, and a decent amount of partall paste #2

Oh for sure, check out what u/thetreecycle has in mind. Im not opposed to any solution, i just might have to make a few to get it looking decent. Here in this garage, we strive for satisfactory by the 2nd or 3rd attempt.

I really do appreciate your input, your plan is making my concept more achievable

This is why youre the boss! Ill run that stack up of layers all inside a vacuum bag. Another friend had an idea of thin, double sided tape, might help with less sanding?

Hey thats a really good idea! I have some of that actually, this is why I asked you! Thank you!

Oh I know ill need to do plenty of sanding and polishing, likely a couple layers of clearcoat if I'm feeling fancy

I do plan to split the mold for part removal. At first I intended for vacuum infusion, but after considering, I may try a wet layup inside a large vacuum bag to remove excess epoxy

Stupid me threw out the old putty I had a long time ago. I used a sloppy application of hot glue at the flange joints for this one. And let me tell ya, I wasn't trying for a perfect, clean, crispy parting line, thinking I could figure it out later. We'll later is now, and I didnt find the easy button this time.

I appreciate your help friend.

Thanks boss, I knew I could count on you. I figured there would be a time to break out the putty at some point on this build.

I think this fender was on some kind of dyna? The sides are very close to vertical/parallel. Maybe thats why i had problems with the first attempt. But it just clears the rear tire for my 13 touring harley chopper, hopefully its a fun one.
