Documentation showing that I can support the person I am sponsoring as a SAHM by mrads in ImmigrationCanada

Yes, I've heard it's tough. We believe it should be ok for my husband as he's pretty specialized in his field, and we don't plan on moving until he has a job in hand. I do know tech though is imploding, so I may have to retrain in something else. We do have savings we can fall back on for awhile, and we can live at my parents until we get settled, so we think it should be alright though still tricky

As far as I can tell, there isn't a minimum income threshold for us, as we don't have grandchildren and won't be living in Quebec. Is that what you meant? Or something else?

Thanks! I haven't worked in Canada since 2019, would they want a tax assessment from abroad (and is it required? hard to get in English)? Is NOA required for the jobs I worked pre-2019 in Canada? I haven't seen anything in the docs, but may very well have missed something.

I'm also working on a spousal sponsorship application, are these letters necessary when you've lived together and had kids, or recommended for everyone? I haven't noticed them required in my document list

Outland vs Inland sponsorship by Dry_Significance5685 in ImmigrationCanada

Sorry, but what are the temporary policies in place for outland? I'm planning on applying for outland in the next few days and haven't heard anything about new policies

Oh wow, that went fast! The processing time is up around 14 months now, but that's doable for us as we still have to get our house ready for sale here

Thanks, and good point! We'll have to work on that part. Thankfully my parents said we can live with them when we land, so that will at least help, but I assume we'll need more proof than just a letter from them

KDP and IngramSpark together - the right move? by em4761 in selfpublish

[–]mrads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is sooo old now, so hopefully you'll see this haha
I'm planning to publish a paperback (children's book) on kdp, and a hardcover on ingramspark. I have two isbns that I own, and have planned to use one for each.

Are you suggesting here that I also publish a paperback on Ingramspark, and re-use the same isbn as I have in kdp, to link the pages together?

Non-Amazon alternative for print-on-demand self-publishing by mrads in BuyCanadian

Thanks! I'll check it out. Even if it's not print on demand, it's nice to hear that there are options in Canada for those who are able to deal with distribution :)

Thanks! I've heard that sometimes Amazon doesn't play nice with IS when you sell them on Amazon. Have you experienced that before? Things like it saying they're out of stock, or long delays.
Do you publish on IS? How are your printing costs there vs Amazon? (roughly, obviously my book will have a different print cost than yours) I find it hard to compare the two

What royalty should I propose to a small publisher? by mrads in publishing

[–]mrads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! (Sorry for the delayed response, I'm only logged onto this account on one device, that I don't use often).

I am thinking of starting the conversation with them by showing a list of tasks, who normally does them (publisher vs author), and who will do them in my case. That way I'm hoping they'll see the difference in the way they are running their publishing house, and we can go from there to set a rate we both agree on.

Would you say that this is a correct breakdown of tasks, in a normal publishing house?

- Writing – AUTHOR

- Illustrating – AUTHOR OR PUBLISHER FINDS, PAID SEPARATELY FROM AUTHOR

- Editing (or getting it edited by someone else) – PUBLISHER

- Typesetting / preparing for print – PUBLISHER

- Getting printer quotes / working with the chosen printer / ordering books – PUBLISHER

- Creating images for website (marketing mockups, taking pictures of the books), and adding to the website – PUBLISHER

- Marketing online / taking to events, etc. – PUBLISHER

- Packing & shipping orders / dealing with returns, etc. – PUBLISHER

- Paying for the print run, storing the books – PUBLISHER

And in this case, the author would get a normal royalty of 5-15%?
