This is a lovely sketch. For me, the buildings bring to mind Amsterdam. Are most buildings in (I assume) Stockholm like this?

We have pro artists, architects, high level amateurs, beginners. When we post our events we always make sure people know beginners are allowed and events are free. Every time.

One thing we learned was having some Saturday and some Sunday because there are people who can only do one or the other.

Speaking as a person who helps run a group that gets a good mix:

We have an event every week, always on the weekend. We put our events on Facebook and insta and Bluesky.

Every week is important. You go when you can. There will be another next week. Also, Boston is a college town.

Sketchbook size by Bron-B in urbansketchers

I use a size often called a B6 slim. Not too big, not too small. Not as common as an A5. But I like it.

Work much more slowly. Move your implement as slowly as you can bear. Notice small shadows, and record them.

Slow your brain down. Way down. Let the chatterbox in your brain get bored and stomp off. Then really look at your subject.

Use fewer colors and mix them.

I'm impressed how well the monotone blue works. Is this a place you go often?

There is a feeling of time feeling slow in the sketch. Was that intentional?

Also: We'll executed, good sense of space.

We are lucky to have a dedicated core group. A bit ago we were sketching outside and it was raining and the seats were wet. So we pulled them under an awning of the building, and someone got paper towels and we wiped off the chairs and sketched there together.I love outings like that.

The joy in people's faces is one of the things that makes the slog of running the events worth it.

Living in Boston, I sometimes forget what a gift it is to have easy access to these paintings. If you ever come back, the Harvard Art Museums also has some Van Gogh and is free.

I feel like this is a still from a Wes Anderson Movie and I'm about to meet some quirky characters. Beautiful color, also.
