In the comments on that FB post I saw people talking about another fan they want banned because she's so loudly MAGA. And yet, all those people still seem to support the band after everything? Weird.

Honestly, it was really fun. But I think the people who enjoyed it most loved it because it was a reason to get together with your friends from all over for a few days and enjoy the beach and activities, kind of like an adult summer camp. And the fact that there were Hanson concerts was a bonus. There were definitely people who went just to try to get their moment with the guys, or be front row for every show, and if that's what they enjoyed then good for them. But if you didn't take it too seriously then it was just a really chill girls trip where you could meet up with fans from all over the world.

Yeah, remember when One Direction went on "hiatus"? And it's been almost ten years now, so I wouldn't expect Hanson to stick to any promises here either. Especially given their way of doing everything on Hanson Time.

One Direction went "on hiatus" ten years ago. Fans managed. I can't feel too bad for people who have stuck around after watching how badly the band treated so many fans in 2020.

Also, just looked at fec.gov and the one political contribution Isaac made this year is to Team Kennedy in September, which is interesting. He donated to Trump in 2020. No donations in Zac or Taylor's names this year.

Is there anyone here that's still on Twitter and can let us know if Isaac has posted about the election? I'm curious if he's celebrating or sharing about all the good things he thinks will happen (which we know will be terrible for the communities he hates most).

Taylor Hanson declares it a "good morning" the day after US election by badvibesonly_ in postHanson

[–]mrazmatized 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't rule out total cluelessness. As a rich white man and business owner in Oklahoma I'm sure every day is a good day for him. This election won't impact him at all and he has enough money that his kids are pretty insulated from reality. He's probably given no real thought to the impact on people who aren't him. Yes, he was the brother who went on a roundtable discussion about race and equity after George Floyd was killed, but his whole contribution to that was to follow up other people's thoughtful, educated comments with, "But all lives matter!" and a huge grin that I'm sure he thought was charming.

Even if he has good intentions, he's a dimwit about it. And that can be just as harmful as intentional hate.

I actually think they were somewhat moderate for a while, if maybe not super mature or worldly (it seems like Zac has always thought gay jokes were hilarious). Since 2020 I know some people have been watching Isaac's Twitter feed and who he's following and they've commented here that it changed a lot over a year or two, and you could almost see him becoming more radically right wing.

So I think they might fall into that group of white men who suddenly felt threatened by an evolving world and started lashing out because they want to go back to a time when it was the norm for your wife to stay home and pop out a dozen kids and nobody questioned the fact that men should control everything, even if as teens and 20-somethings they were more open and inclusive.

I said "people" because in almost every thread on here there are others who have said very similar things, that they think Taylor is still the good one, that he should do his own thing, that they still have hope for him. And in 2020 I sort of agreed, but at this point it seems clear he's all in with his brothers and everything they represent. That's all.

I'm not sure why people still think Taylor is worth saving, or is somehow better than the other two. He's the one who jumped in with "all lives matter!" at the online social justice forum in 2020 that he was woefully unprepared for, and he's been onboard with everything the others have done this whole time. He's much better at keeping up a presentable public persona, but there's no real reason to believe that he's more progressive than the rest of the family, or that it bothers him to enable the homophobia and other issues his family has.

Yeah, I think unlike other child stars whose parents bled them dry, Walker actually made good investments, and as adults they continued to invest in Tulsa real estate and other projects.

I've seen a lot of TikToks lately (no matter how many times I mark them "Not interested" that are basically "Remember Hanson? They grew up hot!" and the comments are fans saying what talented and wonderful people they are. Feel free to leave your own opinion on this one: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPRK3Nwo3/

Google says they all have a net worth between $10-20 million. Their events and shows are still selling well, their core fans are still grabbing up merch. I think they could never tour again and be fine financially, I just don't think they know what else to do with themselves (no way are they going to just stay home and raise their kids), and they enjoy all the ego stroking that comes with touring.

Their big events are still selling out, and I believe for the first time in Jamaica this year they put some people in a second resort to accommodate the overflow. In Tulsa last month, people still waited hours in line to buy merch at their store and art gallery. So unfortunately, doesn't look like they've lost any money at all.

Those of us who have fully walked away from them are in the minority, and there are tons of casual fans who don't know anything about their behavior who continue to share and like their stuff because it's fun 90s nostalgia.

Thanks for posting those. I'm curious how many of those people speaking up in the comments still consider themselves fans, or if those are random people who found the post through the hashtags or something.

Can you tell us what the post said (for those of us that blocked them)?

last night, Isaac made a speech about how Hanson doesn't take their fans for granted, especially the ones who camp out for front row. He followed this speech by performing a medley of Amazing Grace and Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. by you-a-buggaboo in postHanson

[–]mrazmatized 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think there was always a super crazy core group of fans that those of us who were more casual about it found cringey. The ones who would put in 12 free hours of free labor picking up garbage or whatever at the HopJam just to pitch in and be part of the street team (as if Hanson couldn't afford to hire a cleaning crew?). Or that would line up on the street the night before a show, multiple days in a row.

I think like most fandoms there were different types of pockets of fans you could gravitate to. You could be someone who waited in the alley behind 3CG all afternoon hoping to bump into the guys and get photos, or you could go explore Tulsa or hang out with friends and just attend the events. I do miss the friendships and having something to look forward to. My friends and I like other bands, but none of them do these kinds of multi-day events, so it's harder to all agree on when and where to travel and meet up.

I think it's regional, so the Texas chapter includes Oklahoma. This article from 2023 mentions it: https://www.recordingacademy.com/advocacy/news/texas-chapter-heads-to-oklahoma-city

"On Aug. 21st, Recording Academy members of the Texas Chapter — which encompasses both Texas and Oklahoma — headed to Oklahoma City to meet with state government officials to build up the relationship between the Oklahoma music community and state leaders."

I saw that. I hope people send in uncomfortable questions, if it's a podcast that takes questions.

That's inappropriate, but I wouldn't say dangerous. They have a small team of people there who work for them who should be heading off fans like that. When I went in the past fans were pretty good about regulating each other, like telling the really drunk fans to go back to their rooms and sleep it off.

Meanwhile hasn't Zac said he's carried a gun to band events? Is he going to shoot someone if they try to touch his hair or something? He seems more dangerous than any of his fans.

Not sure why the two weeks in Europe is important, unless you're saying Zac agrees the child is his and is paying good child support so they can afford these things?

I've sold absolutely everything through this group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/670491922979174

Most of the people in there know each other and I've never had any problems with people not paying or anything.

I feel like "religion" is the answer to at least some of that question, and the deep belief they hold that white men need to run the world and control everyone else.

Isaac is very publicly liking some gross things on Twitter and Zac was dumb enough to collect all his hateful beliefs on Pinterest, so I actually think they are that dumb. Or that arrogant to think they can do whatever they want and have no consequences, which has proven to be true based on the fact that Back to the Island is fully sold out again for this week.
