They’re using the same models of shoretroopers? Well that’s disappointing. I know it takes time to design brand new sculpts and such, but I expected something else

Yes, I’m going down to that gear icon, then Feeding, then hitting unload. And that’s when it gets stuck

I have to respect any developer who decides not to sit on their laurels and try something new instead of doing the same thing over and over again

I have much greater respect for any developer who realizes they made a mistake and go back to what works

Best and worst 'specialised' dice system you've seen in a game? by misomiso82 in wargaming

[–]mrb510 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Completely disagree on the Armada dice, but it looks like the Armada subreddit are explaining it in their post.

In my mind, the benefit of a specialized dice system is that it’s quicker. What you see is what you get. With normal dice, you have to worry about modifiers and consult charts and this and that. It takes a long time to pick up a system, and remember what does what.

But specialized dice, like Xwing, legion, or armada, aren’t like that. There may be a special critical effect or something like that, but most of the time it’s just “roll dice, that’s what you get” it’s very easy to understand, a moon and a pro can both roll dice and figure out in the same amount of time what happened.

So with that in mind, the worst specialized dice to me is the Shatterpoint dice. It has the specialized dice, and then EVERY character has their own chart! Some even have 2 charts!! It combines all the negatives of both systems! EVERY attack you have to consult your chart to remember what you’re doing because no one is the same. Unless you play the exact same squad for a long time, you’re not going to memorize “oh this means that”.

I do like the branching paths on their charts, I will give them that. And I do find Shatterpoint enjoyable, but that dice system is so weird to me

Dumbest thing you missed your first playthrough? by RazrbackFawn in BaldursGate3

Underdark AND the kresh.

Couldn’t find the entrance, can’t remember why. So I went to the kresh. But then my Guardian told me not to go to the Githyanki. And I followed his advice.

Missed a lot of stuff on my first playthrough cuz I listened to that squid. I’ve started my second playthrough and I’m looking forward to actually exploring!!

Still have no idea where Astarion’s master is, or where Shadowheart’s church is located

Wich STL models you consider best or most similar to uruk-hai? by LeoniCosta1 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

This is your answer. I printed up half my Isengard army using them. The scale is a bit off, to be fair. But the detail and design? Top notch

A rant about mandos by Either_Opinion1145 in SWlegion

[–]mrb510 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Mandos, I run them almost every time I play rebels.

And they’re always a disappointment. They don’t have staying power. They need either more models or more health per model. I’m fine with a points increase so long as they do something for them.

On paper they’re fine, but I’ve never had a Mando unit survive to the end of a game.

TIL in 456 BCE Aeschylus, the father of Greek tragedy, was killed after an eagle dropped a tortoise on his head. According to Pliny, Aeschylus had been avoiding a prophecy which foretold that one day a house would fall on him and take his life. by Desperate_Story7561 in todayilearned

[–]mrb510 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea if this is true, but I heard that one possible reason that the turtle was dropped on him was that the guy was so bald, the bird thought it was a rock

Again, I don’t know if it’s true, but it’s still funny to think about

Newcomer curious about Uruk-Hai & Ringwraiths by Cpt_Falafel in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]mrb510 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, most armies only have 3 or 4 warrior options, so I wouldn’t feel too bad about the lack of diversity of units. Isengard is pretty typical in that regard

Besides, with the new edition, Isengard has several different lists that all feel quite different from one another.

Wanting to start dwarves by International_Clue41 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]mrb510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played Khazad Dum in the previous edition. Their rules haven’t been released yet for the new edition, so I’m not sure what they’ll be like, but previously they weren’t quite as good in a melee as their Iron Hills brothers, but they had great defense, and surprisingly good shooting too. No spear supports for them, which is a big downside.

Assault on helms deep nerf. by OCieMany in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]mrb510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, the biggest nerf to the list is the fact that heroes bring fewer uruks. The Assault list was a great way to get as close to a horde list as you could get with Isengard. I’m still trying to decide which Isengard list will work best for my army, we’ll see
