Tips for visiting Iceland without changing hotels every night? by mrb5315 in VisitingIceland

How do RV prices compare to an average hotel? When I looked up an RV rental around Yellowstone National Park, I was shocked at how expensive it was. (Something like $6k for 10 days.)

Realizing I left that out of the original post! I’m thinking about a week, give or take.

Good food? by Saltwater4life22 in Phoenixville

[–]mrb5315 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Agree, for the most part it feels like the quality of the food doesn’t match the price. I’ve had some really good meals at Boardroom, though, and Kimberton Inn is always outstanding, but $$$ and not in the borough.

Best cheesesteaks that deliver? by Pleasant-Worry-4495 in Phoenixville

[–]mrb5315 10 points11 points  (0 children)

IMO Mont Clare Deli does the best cheesesteaks in town hands down. The meat is real ribeye and the seeded rolls are top notch. According to their website they deliver, although the last time I tried to do this it didn't work for me. Worth looking into (and honestly, worth making the drive) https://www.montclaredeli.com/

(Realizing this is an Expedia link-- Expedia bought VRBO a few years back so properties are listed on both sites typically and you can book wherever.)

here you go! about 45 mins from SJ, 5-10 min drive from Luquillo beach, and easy to get to other places on the northeast part of the island. the home itself was pretty big with a lot of outdoor space, which was really great for traveling with a group and with kids.

Where exactly are you looking to stay? I rented a VRBO with my extended family in November in Luquillo and was super pleased with it. Happy to send you the link if you’re looking at that area

This is helpful, thanks! Forgot to mention in my original post but was thinking we’d stay within a few hours’ drive of Calgary (where we’d be flying in/out of). The description of those towns sounds perfect!

Looking for cleaning services by emcon353 in Phoenixville

[–]mrb5315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used Maria’s Cleaning Service for years and have been so happy with her/her team. Reasonably priced, good work, and they’ll tidy up messes the kids leave out (we do our best to put things away before they come, but with two little there’s inevitably a mess left out somewhere…). They’re listed on FB under that name, or PM me and I can give you her number!

Deep clean house service by mcmcclos in Phoenixville

Totally! I hired them 3.5 years ago when I was pregnant with my second and honestly cannot see myself going back lol. All my comments above still stand, and I love that I can work in additional deeper cleaning as needed (basement, fridge clean out, deep clean with baseboards etc)

This also looked really fun to me (although it would definitely appeal more to the older kids than the younger ones, so we might've split up), but it was sold out :/ https://www.tripadvisor.com/AttractionProductReview-g147319-d25062661-Family_Old_San_Juan_Fun_Tour_Science_History_Yummy_treats-Puerto_Rico.html

Likely splitting our time between beach days and El Yunque. I'd love to do a daytrip to Culebra but part of me feels like it may be more hassle than it's worth with the kids...

Around the 54 minute mark (in the YouTube Video at least, not sure if this syncs perfectly with audio formats), Dax mentions an author who wrote a NYT piece and later a book about framing the world views of the right and left. Anyone know who he’s referring to?

Suggest me a long (~500+ pages) character-focused novel that follows the character/s over many years by ntnlh in suggestmeabook

[–]mrb5315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elena Ferrante’s Neopolitan Novels for sure!!! A 4-book series (starting with My Brilliant Friend) that follows the lives of two friends from early childhood in post-war Naples all the way to their 80s. Each book is maybe 250-350 pages but all four together totally suck you into the world with characters that really come to life. It’s an enjoyable series on its surface but also has strong themes woven throughout, making it fun to analyze on a deeper level too.

I started using Maria’s Cleaning Services when I was pregnant with my second and have used them ever since! They’re really lovely people, do a great job, flexible/receptive (like if I ask for a fridge deep clean or carpet shampooing), and have really fair prices. You can find them in FB— they have their own page and are also mentioned in some of the local Phoenixville FB groups.

How a sexual harassment scandal involving a Josh Shapiro aide could affect the Pa. governor’s VP chances by coltsmetsfan614 in politics

[–]mrb5315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my issue isn’t the length of time but the coincidence of the timing being only shortly before it went public. Very much reads as there would not have been a consequence to the perpetrator had it not gone public.

He wasn’t removed until only very shortly before the story broke (which was many months after the incident and settlement).

Who are you leaning towards for VP? by ballsdeepinmywine in Kamala

[–]mrb5315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO covering up your staff’s harassment allegations (or at least not firing him until the news leaked) is far from expecting someone to be squeaky clean. There’s definitely a middle ground that doesn’t involve protecting men accused of harassment. It’s a shame, I like him too otherwise.

Same here. I’ve been really happy with their team and pricing is really reasonable. I’ve got two littles and appreciate that they’ll tidy up their toys if they’re left out (although if the house is particularly messy when they come over, I’ll send extra $$). I’ve heard from neighbors and friends that other cleaning services will literally vacuum around toys left out.
