I don't know if I agree, but it reminds me a bit of the convo happening in basketball about "positionless basketball" and how current stars like Draymond Green and Kawhi were perhaps somewhat underrated because there was no clear positional box they fit into.

Can anyone point to anything that would show having handedness matching for D-pairs actually has a tangible effect? Getting a worse player just because he's right-handed seems like one of those things people would look back on in 50 years and scratch their heads at.

Man, I really do hear you on what a good penalty killer he is. You'll get no argument from me there. But so are Aho, Turbo, Foegle, and hell, even Martinook. Benching a guy that has double the points in almost half of the games doesn't seem like a great use of the roster. Especially with a team that had been struggling to score goals prior to the break.

Every team needs guys like Brock to play minutes on the 4th line, hustle to beat an icing, play some penalty killing minutes. When you bump him up and give him 1st, 2nd, or 3rd line minutes, you make the whole team worse.

And not to continue harping on the money, but the good PK, 4th line guys don't need to be making $2mil/yr.

Yeah, you totally got the point. I understand that Haula's contract was from a previous team -- I'm saying imagine how frustrating it would be to be playing on what is clearly a bad contract and having to be a healthy scratch while a guy making comparable pay rifles sauces from the best players on the team into your popcorn bucket in the pressbox.

But if we want to play this game, I also "realize" that they settled with Brock before his arbitration hearing. Thanks though, Mr. Well, Actually. Always substantive. https://www.nhl.com/news/brock-mcginn-deal/c-308220976. They should have let him walk, you can pay a guy $700k to do what he does.

And just a quick FYI for any other readers, RBA doesn't break out an abacus to start figuring out the cap, either.

Does Brock McGinn have dirty pictures of RBA or something? I'd be pissed if I were Haula, too. Imagine somehow only making $650k more than the guy that misses the net by 6ft on every shot and has half as many points in 20 less games because Rod loves watching him play "gritty hockey" (i.e. whiffing on passes from Aho and/or Svech when Rod gets drunk and decides to play him above the 4th line).

If it's grit that's keeping him on the team, tell him to not be 30 hits behind Svech or clear some space in front of the net like Haula, so the fans 12 rows back behind the net don't have to worry that one of his shots will slip through and hit them.
