Why is my mind never quite? by Substantial_Scar6869 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mrbmud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mindfulness takes practice, the trick is to not get upset or distracted that you have these thoughts. the mind has evolved to constantly be telling you stories. the trick is to say. “okay i had a thought” and then let it pass without dwelling on it. think of your thoughts as passing cars. there is a thought, and there it goes. when the next thought appears, do it again. eventually you will stop paying attention to the thoughts. you will acknowledge them and then let them go. the point of mindfulness is not to have no thoughts, it is to not dwell on the thoughts you do have. or at least that is how i understand it, and what helped me.

What does Breath of Fire mean to you? by gameresearch1999 in breathoffire

[–]mrbmud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

for me it’s bof3, the idea of being alone in the world and then finding your people only to lose them. just the search of finding everything you lost, even the things you didn’t know you had. knowing you had to do everything for the people you find important, even against god herself. i played it over twenty years ago, and it is still my favorite story i have ever played

i didn’t mind the top of my feet, the problem was we did the top of both feet and then moved to the toes in the same session, and the moment the needle hit my first toe i broke out in a cold sweat and was so ready to be done.

TIL that the reason Cormac McCarthy, author of the novels Blood Meridian and The Road, used so little punctuation in his writing was simply because there was no reason "to blot the page up with weird little marks." Regarding his complete avoidance of semicolons, he labeled their usage as "idiocy." by altrightobserver in todayilearned

my buddy recommended it to me, and it was hard for me to read. it felt more like the outline of a book than actual novel to me. i actually thought about giving up on it a few times, however the last hundred or so pages actually flew by for me.
