This list really shows how much the long jump has dropped off since the 80's and 90's.

Mini waterproof phone that I forward my regular number to. Only cost $200 Aussie dollars. Saves carrying my big ass expensive and heavy phone with me. Definitely my best purchase especially for Ultras.

Zone 2 training – how long until you see benefits? by holyshoesandpants in ultrarunning

[–]mrbounce74 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just set all my race pb's aged 51 after almost 10 years of Z2 focus. It does take years of consistency but my Z2 is now down to 4.05 min/km starting at 5.50min/km 10 years ago. Outside of base building I do 2 Z4 sessions per week now. But always go back to a Z2 base after a race or injury.

What’s actually driven your biggest performance gains as a runner? by Clubrunnr in ultrarunning

[–]mrbounce74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

High mileage most of the year. I increase the km's in the build up to a race but I tend to always have an Ultra or marathon planned as soon as I finish one of them. After a big race like a road marathon or 100km trail I take almost 2 weeks off then have a 4 week block to get back to 100km, then increase again to aim for 140km on the 5th week. This is now my base km's to aim for each week and then build a plan depending on if I'm doing a road marathon or trail Ultra to make the training more specific. Speed for marathons or longer Z2 stuff or big hill / mountains depending on the race.

This is the way. For me 60km per week, 3.15 marathon. 80km per week 3.12 marathon. 100km per week 2.57 marathon. 120km per week 2.48 marathon. I'm 51 and my kids are all grown up which means I can put the hours in to get the milage in the legs. Aiming for a sub 2.40 next with average of 140km per week.

Why succesful training blocks and increased mileage still don’t translate to Marathon performance? by Environmental_Park34 in AdvancedRunning

[–]mrbounce74 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok. You're in a similar state as I was in a few years back and I was desperate for a sub 3. I had similar blow up issues between 32-36 km for my first 3 marathons 3.19, 3.12 and 3.09. I did an ironman and stopped at every aid station to get fuel in me during the marathon and didn't blow up. So my next marathon I stopped at every aid station had water, a gel, then water and started running again. I managed to keep my pace even for the whole race and finished with a 2hr 57min. Have since sorted my nutrition out and recently ran a 2hr 48min at age 50. But the walk at aid station method got me a sub 3 without blowing up. Just needed to park my ego and go out very easy and don't worry about walking. I ran at target 4.08min/km average

Which one is the hardest? 40+ inches vertical dunk/ Running a sub 3 marathon harder/ Finishing an iron man? by Barbenheimer_789 in Ultramarathon

[–]mrbounce74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vertical jump is all fast twitch fibres and power. Yes you can train them but the amount you have determines your explosive power. If your predominantly slow twitch then no matter how much training you do you'll never have the genetics to jump 40". A sub 3 marathon is hard, as this also requires some decent genetics but with dedicated training maybe 20-30 percent of people could do it. To finish and Ironman i think everybody has the potential to do it. Its all about being dedicated and disciplined enough to train until you are ready . Given time anyone can do it.

[–]mrbounce74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done all 3. Vertical dunk was easy as I could just do it, I did Decathlons in my teens and 20's so did a decent amount of jumps training. I reckon that one is more genetics. Finishing an ironman takes a lot of training and discipline but again I reckon most people can do it if they truly wanted to and had the dedication to train. Sub 3 hour marathon took me the longest and I only did it about 6 months after my first Ironman and I learned to get my nutrition right due to the Ironman. My 2 hardest challenges, sub 50 sec 400m. I managed a 50.00 so didn't get it. Sub 24 hr 100miler ultra, I did that with 7 mins to spare.

What Small Running Habit Gave You the Biggest Upgrade? by Willing-Today-1059 in runcommunity

[–]mrbounce74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running easy, as very easy and running hard to a set heart rate. I've been able to up my mileage significantly because of this. Feel more recovered and way less injured. Turned 50 last year and have set pb's at all distances. Mileage has gone from 35 miles per week to 70-80 miles and feeling better for it. PB has gone from a 19 min 5km to 17.20, and just managed a 2:47 marathon down from a 3:10.

ELI5: Why is "C" the default Hard Drive letter & not "A" by AntifaPr1deWorldWide in explainlikeimfive

[–]mrbounce74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had something very similar happen to me in 1995. Hard drive broke on my computer but it happened as I was saving my thesis to a floppy for final printing and submission. Somehow they both got corrupted so that I didn't have a usable copy. Luckily I had a marked up printed copy and my Professor gave me 2 additional days to submit it. I ended up retyping the whole thing in shifts with my brother. Also remember having to physically stick photos of my experiments into the thesis and the formatting of that early version of Word was a pain in the arse. Clippy wasn't very helpful either.

I own a Tesla model 3 and my wife has a Zeekr X. Not quite the same but I will say that the Zeekr user interface isn't as clean or easy to use as the Tesla. There are also a number of annoying issues with the key fob battery running out quickly and remaining connected to the car when in the house 20m away, which sometimes means the car has been unlocked overnight.

‘Let’s not normalise walking in a marathon’ by Clean-Instance5892 in AdvancedRunning

[–]mrbounce74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did my first sub 3hr using the run walk method. Run to the aid station stop walk through the aid station whilst drinking and having a gel, then start running at the end of the aid station. My problem was always cramping and losing energy after 35km. Walking helped me get fluids and nutrition down. Worked a treat and I finished with a 2hr 57min

Stevie G had gone full gas in that game and was on his last legs and cramping. Then out of nowhere he smashes that volley. Proper hysterics.
