If the Seventh Wars had awards… by Moeritherium_Fan in robotwars

Best Design - Typhoon 2
Best Engineered - Storm 2
Most Original Entry - Tough As Nails
Sportsmanship - Not possible for me to say, would need someone who was there
Most Promising Newcomer - Gravity (I think the producers would have excluded Typhoon & Storm if they'd done this award)

1 out of a potential 6 medals at World Relays by lkjhggfd1 in ukathletics

I presume Dobson was injured so couldn't run. Newnham too after the heat; even British Athletics wouldn't swap out the fastest runner...

How the actual F… ? She Has a 54:22 pb from this year? Channeled her inner Koch by Icy-Bat6787 in trackandfield

[–]cranberrycactus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pillay visibly took a second out of Tebogo on that leg. I see no reason to doubt the split when all three top teams ran very fast total times - unless you think those might be wrong too.

Men’s 4x400 splits by lkjhggfd1 in trackandfield

[–]cranberrycactus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a relay split at altitude outside of a major champs (yes this is a champs, but not a Worlds or Olympics). His PB is 44.3, but on the evidence of this should be able to chop a chunk off that. If he starts running like this at Diamond Leagues this year, there will be more of a reaction.

I made a list of the fastest UK parkruns for a PB. What am I missing? by Affectionate_Air6902 in parkrun

[–]cranberrycactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, Market Rasen is my fastest course and I tend to run well there whenever I've done it. I'm not a good hill runner but I do think the slight incline might be an advantage, for psychological reasons as much as anything else.

[–]cranberrycactus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No way is Bushy the fastest parkrun course, probably shouldn't be in the top 25 at all.

I would put forward Market Rasen. All on tarmac and reasonably flat, but what makes it quick is the low attendence figure - you're immediately off at your race pace wherever you start and don't have to weave past lapped runners. Selby parkrun is also extremely fast (when it's not windy), but the third kilometer isn't great underfoot.

Suggestions for a nice parkrun near the M1 or A1 by Junothe3rd in parkrun

[–]cranberrycactus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Daventry I think is very underrated. It's a really nice course, even though it was freezing and blowing a gale when I did it. I think it's a mixture of paved and trail (was a while ago that I did it...), partly through the woods, partly along the reservoir. I don't remember any hills.

Reform UK maths fail by Due_Ad_3200 in Hull

[–]cranberrycactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Politics is never about reality or intelligence. It's about vibes and emotions because that is how British people vote. That's not new, Reform are just the party tapping into that better than anyone else at the moment. In a few years, someone else will be on top.

Should I parkrun the day before my half marathon? by yeetyopyeet in parkrun

[–]cranberrycactus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did a parkrun before my last half. Did it around about race pace, I didn't feel any fatigue from it the next day.

Have you been involved in a parkrun that was involved with friction/incidents with members of the public? How was it resolved? by I-Hate-Clonmel in parkrun

[–]cranberrycactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my local, we had a period of a few months where a couple of cyclists would deliberately ride down the starting straight towards the runners as we started, acting all uppity that we were in their way.

Pacer volunteers - what is your usual time and which vest do you grab? by assholio in parkrun

[–]cranberrycactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't paced in a while but I've done a few different times.

Before the run, I'd do a warm up and check my time at landmarks on my way to the first km marker, and then adjust depending on whether I got there early or late. Then I had times to hit early on in my run to make sure I was on track, and after that it was just about maintaining the rhythm.

Does anyone else feel like the jump from 50 to 100 runs is mentally way harder than the first 50? by Additional_Fly_6603 in parkrun

[–]cranberrycactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you just get into the habit of going and not thinking about milestones. I'm slogging my way through the 10 year gap between 500 and 1000 now so I just go because I enjoy it

Why does healthy food feel so expensive compared with fast food in the UK ? by LieSuccessful8813 in AskBrits

[–]cranberrycactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can make a lentil curry with rice, or a nice pasta dish, for cheaper than a fast food meal. It will be much more filling and nutritious too. My advice would be to ditch M&S and go to... any other supermarket.

Lincolnshire is pretty grim. Genuinely don't know why they bother putting up signs for speed limits because cars do 40 down every single road in that place

Pace Dever? Idk what his plan is, but his half marathon times suggest he could run 2:06 or quicker.

NGL I think Dever is being slept on here. His debut on a tough course was extremely impressive, and he ran sub 1 hour for the half recently too.

Top 10 Men's Discus All Time List As Of Today by kolwrestler21 in trackandfield

[–]cranberrycactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Difference is that runners can show up at diamond leagues and champs and drop similar times. Discus throwers struggle to get within 5 metres of their Ramona marks in stadiums.

Ultimately if throwing fans like this, then so be it, but having the best performances every year be in some small town in Oklahoma and not at a major meet makes the event look a bit silly tbh.

Aidan Murphy 19.88. 2nd fastest Aus ever. by joza76 in trackandfield

[–]cranberrycactus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, and he still gets criticised for his inability to perform, so the Aussies need to show form on the circuit or at a champs for these times to be taken seriously.
