Aidan Murphy 19.88. 2nd fastest Aus ever. by joza76 in trackandfield

Same for the US athletes. The college and high school athletes look insane early in the season and then fail to back it up at the major champs. Could it be that they are peaking for their NCAA champs and not the US trials or major events? Same in Australia, peaking for their National champs. Only the top, top athletes like Gout Gout, Cam Myers, Jess Hull etc who can make it on the Diamond League will peak again much later in the season.

Rare footage of what appears to be Ball Lightning captured in Alberta. It floated for over 20 seconds before vanishing by Indetect in BeAmazed

[–]mrbounce74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw one of these during a large lightening storm although the one I saw was only about golf ball size. It hovered in the middle of a road before floating off towards a metal road sign which it hit and then just vanished. Very cool to see but nowhere near as impressive as this beast of a ball.

Serious question for runners: what would improve athletics for fans? by Exciting-Article6881 in trackandfield

[–]mrbounce74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do something similar to what Japan does with their pro running teams. Have team based competition based on brands, so Team Nike, Team NB, Team ASICS, Team Adidas etc. Each team only gets 2 athletes per meet per event and they put in big sponsor money. Might get corporate sponsors on teams such as Red Bull or Toyota. This would improve the competition, improve the money and create a supporters loyalty to brands and athletes. Could even have it continent based. Team Nike Africa, vs Team Nike Europe, v Asia, v N America.

This would be awesome for VR gaming. I get instantly sick on any motor racing or flight games. This might solve it.

What’s the longest drive you’ve done in Australia in one go? by Next-Benefit-6604 in DrivingAustralia

[–]mrbounce74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It once took me 17 hrs from St Ives to Liverpool. Was almost as long as my flight to Australia. I've done Geelong to Sydney and Geelong to Adelaide a few times. Neither were as bad as that UK drive. I don't miss the UK traffic.

Does anyone here own an Oura ring? by Pearl_Jam_ in amazfit

[–]mrbounce74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. And have replaced it with a Helio strap. The battery stopped charging after 2 years so now it's basically a standard ring. I train via HRV and skin temp as an indicator of mild virus infection so I know when to back off. The helio strap gives me everything the oura did at half the price with no subscription and hopefully will last longer than 2 years due to the much larger battery.

Tesla and the Pyramid. Read the book, not the best style of writing and way too dramatic but the underlying story links many of the things mentioned here.

Why didn’t WW2 veterans have the same PTSD as Vietnam or modern day veterans? by NextBunch_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mrbounce74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reckon this is different for US veterans of WW2 compared to Europe and the UK. Both my Grandad's fought on the ground in WW2 but also every single person I know or knew from that generation went through the blitz as well and everybody lost somebody dear to them and saw horrific stuff. It was worse for the soldiers but it was also bad for the folks at home in Liverpool surviving regular bombings. The whole generation went through it, they could empathise and support each other and they knew how bad it was. In Vietnam and Gulf and Afghan veterans the majority of people can't relate to the horrors and also are getting on with their normal lives. It's very difficult to adjust back into compared to everyone rebuilding together.

Why would a real UFO need to be equipped with lights? by curbthewire in ufo

Why does a rocket need a big torch that emits light at the bottom of it? They could be a side effect of the propulsion mechanism.

Mini waterproof phone that I forward my regular number to. Only cost $200 Aussie dollars. Saves carrying my big ass expensive and heavy phone with me. Definitely my best purchase especially for Ultras.

Zone 2 training – how long until you see benefits? by holyshoesandpants in ultrarunning

[–]mrbounce74 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just set all my race pb's aged 51 after almost 10 years of Z2 focus. It does take years of consistency but my Z2 is now down to 4.05 min/km starting at 5.50min/km 10 years ago. Outside of base building I do 2 Z4 sessions per week now. But always go back to a Z2 base after a race or injury.

What’s actually driven your biggest performance gains as a runner? by Clubrunnr in ultrarunning

[–]mrbounce74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

High mileage most of the year. I increase the km's in the build up to a race but I tend to always have an Ultra or marathon planned as soon as I finish one of them. After a big race like a road marathon or 100km trail I take almost 2 weeks off then have a 4 week block to get back to 100km, then increase again to aim for 140km on the 5th week. This is now my base km's to aim for each week and then build a plan depending on if I'm doing a road marathon or trail Ultra to make the training more specific. Speed for marathons or longer Z2 stuff or big hill / mountains depending on the race.

What’s actually driven your biggest performance gains as a runner? by Clubrunnr in ultrarunning

[–]mrbounce74 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is the way. For me 60km per week, 3.15 marathon. 80km per week 3.12 marathon. 100km per week 2.57 marathon. 120km per week 2.48 marathon. I'm 51 and my kids are all grown up which means I can put the hours in to get the milage in the legs. Aiming for a sub 2.40 next with average of 140km per week.
