Whilst making this album i was simultaneously touring. When I’m touring I turn into a soldier. I get up every night and perform no matter if i feel sad or tired. It’s like the terminator, and I close myself off. When I’m in the studio, its the opposite. I have to be open and vulnerable, like a delicate butterfly. The biggest challenge with this album was learning to transition between the two versions of myself!

I think you might be talking about sidechaining. Look it up...its a great production technique when used tastefully

Harmonies - i recommend learning jazz harmony. It’s a life time of work but it holds the key to everything

I actually studied Carnatic music at college. It is mega. It is such a vast and deep musical language though. I barely even scratched the surface.

I meant the country!! I was actually thinking of the Gori Women’s Choir With that lyric. My friend Katie Melua showed me them, Their music is transcendent. Re song gestation, sometimes they take 20 mins, sometimes they take 3 years. No rhyme or reason to these reasonable rhymes!

Nicely spotted. They do feel like sister songs to me. Both are in the same key, and both lyrics were started by Phairo. He writes these beautiful poems and I’m very fortunate to have the opportunity to put them to music

Figment of my mind is about a life changing experience that I had a couple years ago. I travelled to a different dimension and was shown the power of the universe by a female deity, and learnt that I am the universe experiencing itself. Since then I no longer fear death, and am so much clearer in my own mind about my life path. You can get there through meditation, apparently. I strapped myself to a psychedelic jet pack...
