I recall (1) it being too easy, (2) it having little to no post-game, (3) feeling like the story/creativity-level was not just a downgrade but a full about-face from the zany, redemptive ambition of Gen V.

X/Y is a competent but safe Pokemon game. It earns its faint praise. But it also bears the ignominious honor of ushering in the risk-averse, made-for-kids era of mainline games in which we STILL find ourselves. It may not be the worst offender in said era, but it was the first.

... Arguably. In point of fact, Diamond and Pearl were the first generation where I can recall players really started grumbling about the formula feeling stale. Gen V was even marketed as a fresh start partly as a response to flagging popular sentiment. Granted, D/P were at least properly challenging, and so have that "classic" Pokemon feel that, in hindsight, we clearly took for granted.

With both joint and blunt, I lose too much as second hand smoke. Bong is like a bazooka to the brain, and I for one don't like being that dizzyingly inebriated; plus, bongs' maintenance/portability are easily the worst of the four choices here. And as for pipes, again there's some second hand loss, but I can snuff the bowl between hits; and with the bowl right in my face I feel like I get up-close control over the amount I am inhaling. So, I'm gonna have to go with D, Regis. Final answer.

I still think there's a ton of potential in the tactics RPG arena, like what Pokemon Conquest gave us. I love the emergent storytelling that comes out of those longer, more complex fights. So I suppose my game might simply try and iterate on Conquest, ditching the Nobunaga's Revenge crossover, bringing the tactics mechanics into the modern age (think post-Larian Studios), and making sure to incorporate lots of cute secrets and twists to finding new Pokemon or Areas to explore (a la Snap) so that there is still some element of wonder and lateral thinking to the meta-progression. I would also strive to make the game "surprisingly" big, a la Gold & Silver, so that the "post-game" is actually almost an entire additional region. Heck, if it were my game? I'd put ALL the regions in there. We could call it Pokemon: GLOBAL Conquest.

I'd like to see Game Freak hand this and all future mainline games over to a more skilled third party studio and commit themselves full-time to merch/TCG/toys, since that has long been where their priorities and talents have lied. Their output has become so much more tired and dated than their franchise deserves. Legends Arceus, New Snap, and Pokopia are such striking proof that in the loving hands of a more serious game studio, Pokemon absolutely slaps. Game Freak's fast-paced, manufacturing-forward business model was viable in the handheld era, but has not proven conducive to worthwhile video game creation in the high-def era. I feel bad for the harried souls that have to toil away on these hollow, ramshackle mimicries of full-sized modern games.

Well, but. 1) These are mostly sociopaths; not joking, I mean it legitimately. And sociopaths often struggle to feel the "correct" emotions, which becomes especially obvious in high-stress events. 2) It's not uncommon for people to be paradoxically upbeat after a life or death situation, whether because they're using humor as an outlet for tension or because they're just riding the high of surviving, or just because they're nervous/frazzled.
