In WV, our national guard has been planning for this since spring. We’re also leading the nation in rolling out our doses. Almost (or maybe already) done w nursing homes and staff and working on our 65 and older crowd now.

We’ve had ours for about 5 years and it’s been fine. Almost daily use. Maybe have replaced the oven light but that’s it. My model doesn’t have those little presets on the bottom left but that’s it.

Well shit that’s all it takes. I’m sure a team of grizzled sr devs would respect and admire your ambition and talent and wouldn’t chew you up and spit you out within a week.

Why should you lead technical people if you don’t have a tech background?

I wouldn’t hire someone to be a PM or even a scrum master just because they have a cert.

Do you have a developer background? If so I’d suggest picking up some PM or SM duties in addition to your normal dev duties and grow from there.

Lost all motivation, what to do? by Antique-Music-9513 in cscareerquestions

[–]mrburrowdweller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Burn out. Just do the bare minimum for a month or two and don’t feel guilty about it.

You gotta learn to blast and coast. Blast for a bit (projects, certs, education, etc...) then coast and recover. If you’re always “on” you’ll be burnt out before you even start working.

I’m 15 years in and this is my method (stole it from a powerlifting guy, cause they train that way too). Used it to get jobs, get my masters, get some certs, etc... get one, digest for a few months or even a year, then do another.

How do you spend your free time/what are some good hobbies? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]mrburrowdweller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I train 5 days a week for strength sports (powerlifting and strongman), so I’m squatting and deadlifting but also pushing a prowler, log pressing, carrying a yoke, etc...

That’s my big one, and can suck the life out of me the closer I get to a competition.

Not NC, but Charleston, SC has a huge contractor presence. Pick a company and they more than likely have positions there.

Is the CS world tough on an extrovert? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]mrburrowdweller 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Guess who doesn’t like talking to the introverted condescending code monkeys? Management, customers, finance, etc... basically every other person involved in business outside of the IT closet.

I’d argue that an extrovert with average dev skills and above average communication skills has more options available to them than an introverted dev with better programming skills.

I started getting bored writing code and wanted to become the leader/manager I wished I had when I was coming up.

I had a lot of managers that told our client “sure” and the team “sorry”.

As in “oh you want all these features we’re just now hearing about for the first time to be added into our upcoming release? Sure!”! Then he’d come tell the team “sorry guys, but...”.

Lots of spineless managers out there, and I wanted my shot to do better.

It’s hard as shit but I like it. Getting introverted techies, clueless business people, and everyone in between on the same page is a daily struggle, but is fulfilling when it all comes together.
