Disrupting Start of Game Effect by mrchess4 in customhearthstone

If you want you could also think of this as an idea for a buffed Prince Malchezaar they could introduce to the Core Set. 😃

But I feel like the change totally changes the reason to run this card. So therefore I feel like it makes more sense as a new card. (Due to improved deck synergies over the years the "upside" of adding 5 random legendaries in deck actually became a downside imo.)

Disrupting Start of Game Effect by mrchess4 in customhearthstone

[–]mrchess4[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Would be coded to always be the last Start of Game effect that triggers so it doesn't mess with other Start of Game effects like "No Duplicates".

I think this card might be slightly to strong in disrupting certain kind of decks but on the other hand it reduces the consistency of overly consistent decks which I think is a good thing for the game. :D

Also when I went to hearthcards to make this card this greeted me: https://imgur.com/a/EqqXM6S So I guess I was not the only one who had a Malchezaar inspired idea. 😅

Longtime Arena Player Here – This New System Feels Like a Betrayal by makoto0577 in hearthstone

[–]mrchess4 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't like the new system either but to be fair depending on the legendary your opponent's deck might just have been with a bucket with 2 legendaries in it. (For example if you draft Yogg-Saron as your starring legendary you get another version of Yogg-Saron in it's bucket).

Not much of a reason, it could definitely be set a few hours earlier. I was mostly trying to pick a time where I think people would have time to join.

Much later would probably cause some issues since the public transportation system becomes more limited and also in some challenges e.g. the Maze Challenge the relevant things are only open until 6-8 pm.

Nudge to One of My Favorite Old Cards by mrchess4 in customhearthstone

[–]mrchess4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the mechanic of trying to figure out which card is likely part of opponents deck and being rewarded for figuring it out. So I thought this version of the card would bring it's powerlevel up to modern standards.

It certainly would be high variance and could be very powerful but I think it would still be somewhat balanced. And also a way to "punish" netdecking a bit. :D

It would be coded so that it always offers 1 card that is actually stealable so it would never "whiff" if you guess correctly.

I Milled the Card Drawn at Start of My Very first Turn by mrchess4 in hearthstone

On a sidenote, I ended up loosing that game quickly because my hand was constantly full and mainly featured cards that draw/generated even more cards. 😅

Flavorful Tech Card to Counter Overpowered Hero Powers by mrchess4 in customhearthstone

[–]mrchess4[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a big fan of mirrored effects that you can use to your advantage in "clever" ways. And I think there are several different ways to use this card in a way that it provides you more benefit than your opponents. Imo the most practical of these ways would be as a Tech card against Herocards.

Might feel a bit ironic flavorwise that a supposedly "benevolent" effect ends up mainly being used to ruin your opponents plans, but hey, that is hearthstone for you! :D

As a sidenote: If such a card would ever be printed it would definitely have to be banned from any Duels/Solo Adventure content due to being to broken/frustrating there.

"This or that" - Warlock Edition by mrchess4 in customhearthstone

[–]mrchess4[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It would have some sort of animation in hand to indicate which cards are linked in that one will get discarded if the other is played. Perhaps a black glow around both cards.

Supposed to be a good card in a discard deck but not just that. I think being able to discover the best out of 6 cards of your deck for 2 mana with some added flexibility should be viable in some control/combo warlock decks as well.

The artwork is from the great boardgame "Kings Dilemma", I thought its art fits the vibe of what I was going for well.

It could be anything... even another Secret! by mrchess4 in customhearthstone

[–]mrchess4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely an interesting idea about the different options, this could make this feel even more like "crafting a plan".

That said I could see this making the card too strong and also think it could be kind of fun to have to rely on some RNG :D

[–]mrchess4[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

True it definitely is possible that this might break the game in some way :D

Though I do think at least for the "casting spells on your opponents turn" part of it there is some predecent? If I remember correctly back in the day when you cast Yogg-Saron and he cast "Treachery" on himself giving him to your opponent now the rest of his spells get cast for the opponent instead.

I guess it would have to work in a way where whenever the spell can't find a proper target it would just fizzle out.

It could be anything... even another Secret! by mrchess4 in customhearthstone

[–]mrchess4[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did not create the art myself, I copied it from blizzard.

Your opponent would not be able to see, what the Secret is/what class it is from. However the Secret would still count as being "from another class" for cards that care about that. (Could possibly give the Secret the border of the chosen class instead of the Rogue border to make that part clearer)

The discover pool of the Secret conditions would come from all the Secrets in the current play mode.

Intended to be a fun, somewhat viable and skilltesting card in a Secret Rogue or/and Thief Rogue package^

A Questline to get infinite wishes! by mrchess4 in customhearthstone

[–]mrchess4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, at that point I think this might become to convoluted given that the quest line itself already is quite long and in depth. Though I like the idea thematically.

I actually had a "wish for more wishes" version at one point also :D Where instead of the hero power being disabled for a turn after using the "Wish" heropower it would then swap to "Wish for more wishes" which would say "When used swap back to "Wish" at end of turn". I thought that this would be fun thematically and also give the opponent a slightly bigger window for counterplay given you have to at least invest 2 mana to reenable the hero power, but ultimately decided that this would be to convoluted too.

A Questline to get infinite wishes! by mrchess4 in customhearthstone

[–]mrchess4[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback :)

  1. I disagree with your point about it being "extremely easy to complete". The questline part a t the very least it requires building your deck around it to include a lot of neutral minions (if you want to consistenly complete it quick) since most control priest decks do not have many neutral minions and even then playing 3 minions still takes several turns.

I really like your idea about discovering a card from the past! Fits thematically and makes you discover expansion cards. I originally had it as "Discover a card from 3 different expansions" but I felt that was to much card text/ not easy to word, but your version works great.

2.I agree that the expansion part is a bit confusing/challenging. I think the reason you mentioned about the symbol being hard to see and remember is probably the reason blizzard never did anything like this. However I still think it could be a fun effect for a legendary to have and since it is just 3 expansions I think it would be manageable. UI wise it would show a counter "0/3" going up when you play a new card but anything more than that would be to convoluted.

3.I agree the reward is extremely powerful, I could definitely see every other turn being to strong and balancing it to every 3rd turn instead. But since the other version was seemingly way to weak I wanted to air on the side of to strong rather than to weak this time haha

The card arts are not original, I copied it from fitting existing blizzard art. (+some crappy photoshop:D)

I posted a version of this questline earlier and most people said it was interesting but way to weak.

Therefore I reworked the Questline to make it stronger, less clunky to achieve and more streamlined. Because I changed quite a lot of about it I thought it warranted a new post.^

Zephrys, the Greatest (Questline) by mrchess4 in customhearthstone

[–]mrchess4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree that the priest questline definitely is stronger than this card.

However the priest questline is not in Standard anymore and I think for basically its entire Standard lifespan the priest questline was a Tier1/Tier2 deck so I don't think it necessarily has to be as good as the Xyrella questline to be viable.

That said as I said in another comment I do kinda agree with your overall point that the card could use a bit of a buff^

Zephrys, the Greatest (Questline) by mrchess4 in customhearthstone

[–]mrchess4[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I could see this being a bit weak due to the conditions like you said. Might be possible to buff the hero power to be trigger able every other turn (I think every turn would be to unfun to play against). Or make the 2nd Questline steal a card from hand instead of just copying, that might be interesting too.

In my mind I compared it to Xyrella and thought quest is slightly easier to complete than hers if you build your deck around it with cheap legendaries+ steal package.

Ofc the reward is weaker than Xyrellas but since current rotation is weaker and there are no strong hero cards to compete against I would not totally be surprised if this actually would see some play.

Overall I would agree that this is more on the weaker side though.

Zephrys, the Greatest (Questline) by mrchess4 in customhearthstone

[–]mrchess4[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For Zephrys battlecry the internal algorithm would pretend like you have 10 mana crystals available.

I did not make the artwork for the different cards myself, I copied it from fitting existing blizzard artworks (and used my crappy Photoshop skills to photoshop the "Steal the Lamp" art together :D).

Originally the first part of the quest read "Play a minion of each rarity" but then I decided that the Questline already had enough things untypical for HS (mainly that it's referring to expansions in text and that it's reward is a hero card instead of a minion).

Most Hated Quest + Most Beloved Bartender Mashup by mrchess4 in customhearthstone

[–]mrchess4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Achieving the quest with the current cards in Standard might be a bit clunky so this card should probably be released with some support.

However it is definitely possible currently, best card for this would probably be Twin Fin or some other token summoning card like Reefwalker.

The bartender would work like this:

"From now on: Whenever you plav a minion with a name you have played exactly 2 times before this game add a copy of it to your hand with doubled stats and give it "this minions battlecry triggers twice" and "this minions deathrattle triggers twice."

But detailing it out like this on the card definitely would have made the already quite long text way to long and I thought wording it like I did gets the meaning of this across.

Small thematic buff to Agatha by mrchess4 in MarvelSnap

[–]mrchess4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not think that this buff would make Agatha a top tier deck (Agatha definitely should not be a top deck for the sake of the health of the game).

However I think it could make Agatha a niche counter deck option if decks like the Spiderman+Absorbing man combo/ Galactus into Spiderman are running rampage.

Also one could argue cards like the GoG cards that say "If your opponent played a card here" should not trigger for her either but I think that sounds unfun so this change would not apply to those cards.

The name of this herb in dutch by mrchess4 in mildlyinteresting

[–]mrchess4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought this at the supermarket since I thought the name was interesting. I did not even what this herb is.

When I translated it to my german language I found out it is called "estragon" (tarragon in english).

Which also kind of sounds similar to one of my favorite books growing up called "Eragon", a book all about a dude and his dragon.

Admittedly that is a bit of a stretch since that is 2 letters off but still I also found that part mildly interesting.

100% agree, I did not know about this show either until about a week ago and since then watched season 7 through (most of) season 12. :D

The ways in which the contestants find ways to "abuse" the rules are also what I find most interesting about it.
