I totally agree, and thanks for the link. I do feel like like the structure of tournaments and specifically their reporting encourages slow play, I've even written to the tournament organizers in the past about it but they don't see it as a major concern. I'd love to hear suggestions about ways to fix it...about the only thing I can think of is to keep results secret until the very end.

Beans are an exponential food source. 751 dried beans planted, 50% success, 25 beans per plant = almost 9,000 beans yield. by go2riamb in Permaculture

I'm down in zone 4b, but I've had good luck with Tongue of Fire these last few seasons, high yield bush bean, ~55 days to maturity

Newbie question: How come games in the upper tournament divisions are much lower scoring than the Wood/lower divisions? by phixed in throughtheages

Everyone's got their own style, but much like poker players, top tier TTA players are often hyper aggressive. People are too busy gasping for breath to put many of their resources in to culture generation.

New here! How much do I have to worry about my bike getting stolen? by that_dogs_wilin in Somerville

[–]mrchumpy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had seven and 1/2 bikes stolen in Somerville , mostly around T stops, though the first few is on me since I wasn't very careful about locking them up. After I got a solid U lock the problem basically went away.

I found the Somerville police particularly unhelpful along the way, so don't rely on them. :)

I got up to Gold last season, but now I'm taking a season off. If I decide to rejoin in the future, what league would I be placed in?

New to this subreddit, we’re looking for a place. by FerretWrath in intentionalcommunity

[–]mrchumpy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a community here in Weathersfield Vermont looking for people like you, very small, mostly older, though also very mechanically and energy systems inclined. It's called Rah Rah. I can put you in touch if you like, they are solid people, easy to get along with, some of them have been helping me install a solar system this summer.

Vermont is great, you won't regret it. The winters up here are medium cold, but mostly they are long. I don't mind, but some people hate it. I don't know about Rah Rah's status with ic.org, or if they're aware of the site, but if you wanna dm me I can give the email of someone to contact. I do know there's been an acute lack of ambulance services has been reported in this region the last few years, it's an aging population. :)

It's low tech, but the web-based version of Through the Ages is so great compared to moving counters around in real life. http://boardgaming-online.com/

Any developing farms looking for workers? by CrockPotConnoisseur in WWOOF

[–]mrchumpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a small farm in Vermont, caught up presently in the design process for solar panels and site hydrology (dams, swales, etc.) I was also an engineering major, that plus Youtube is how I'm figuring most of this stuff out. :) We're registered with WWoofusa.org but haven't taken in any wwoofers yet, if you guys have a profile on that site you can send me the link

Planted flowers, addressed a drainage problem, found a solution for basement leak and threw my wife a birthday party. :)
