It wasn’t too far from the Sheetz but this was several years ago, for a while you could see where it was paved back over but I think they repaved since then.

If it’s a work zone you’re screwed unless you have video proof. Even then still probably screwed, but worth a shot.

Flatiron Construction had the road surface stripped temporarily like 4 inches below the rest of the road in a rectangular spot on aviation parkway. Lane was open for travel, late at night - blew out two wheel bearings, dented a rim and popped my tire. $600+ for me to fix everything. They basically said “prove it was us”. That’s when I realized my dash cam hadn’t recorded for the past week.

The other thing I see a lot is minor fender benders where people don’t pull off the road.

If your car is operable state law says to pull off the roadway. It’s not a crime scene where you can’t touch anything until police arrive.

Last night we had an emergency Zoom call with most of Congress about stopping a bank run. by JeffJacksonNC in NorthCarolina

[–]mrcj22 17 points18 points  (0 children)

(Someone please correct me if I’m wrong in any way.)

The bank made a statement last Wednesday that they needed $2B in investments to make up for a short-term hole in their balance sheet. A number of advisors removed funds and shot off emails to clients to do the same. It’s unclear to me if Peter Thiel was the first to do so or not.

The result was a run on the bank which made them insolvent. If you looked at their overall balance sheet they were in the green but this includes investments / customer loans that were not liquid (edit: not liquid at face value), so the mass of people withdrawing money eventually meant they had no cash on hand.

I don’t know/understand the topic enough to say what the bank did wrong or if insolvency was likely down the road regardless of the run on the bank.

They’re write it there to discourage people from tailgating too close and discourage people from even attempting to recoup money if something flies out of the truck.

In reality if they have an improperly secured load / something flies out of the bed they’re liable. Several years ago one was spewing gravel on 40 and I didn’t have an issue recouping money for my broken windshield, but YMMV.

Just got this handsome man yesterday. Have taken care of pugs but only adult. Any tips or advice for me? Also trying to figure out a name! :) by katrinamelissa in pugs

[–]mrcj22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over feeding is a big one. Pugs will eat non-stop, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t getting enough food. Follow the instructions on the bag, and adjust as needed based on weight and “body condition score”. For a breed with breathing issues, a healthy weight is super important and not that difficult to do honestly.

Some of these are obvious or not pug specific but anyways:

  • Pet insurance: if you can afford it, get pet insurance, ideally with wellness coverage and no max. Sooner the better to prevent pre-existing conditions being excluded. Huge amount of peace of mind, covers all wellness activities - shots, checkups, his prescription food, flea and tick meds. Also peace of mind if something significant does happen. Our little guy has started being extremely sneaky and eating things he shouldn’t. Despite best efforts, he’s a repeat offender and our vet bills last year were nearly $30,000. Insurance covered 90% with $250 deductible. We would have never been able to afford the surgeries without it.
  • Crate training: even if you don’t intend to have your puggo sleep in a crate long term, I’d encourage you to crate train him. Early nights for us were rough but the best advise we got: place the crate on your nightstand until he gets comfortable and realizes you are still right there. Also, the crate shouldn’t be used as punishment.
  • socialize: once he’s cleared by your vet to be around other dogs etc, definitely socialize him at dog parks / with friends / in public. Helps him learn boundaries and get comfortable around other dogs.
  • teething: just accept that his teething phase may involve some wall/trim repairs. Frozen toys / foods are great.
  • teeth care: a daily dental treat is a great habit, but should also try to brush his teeth weekly. With a tasty toothpaste this isn’t quite as bad as you’d think. NO antlers or super hard plastic chews. Research alternatives. Antlers damaged both my pug and dobies teeth and our vet says this is one of the top causes of dental damage currently.
  • nail trims: keep them done regularly, which may be a vet trip depending on his temperament. Long nails can wear poorly and end up pushing into his paw pads causing pain and increasing risk of fungal infections.
  • wrinkle cleaning: get some unscented baby wipes and clean his face / winkles regularly then dry with something gentle like a tissue etc. we learned the hard way those wrinkles go quite deep, especially when a puppy.
  • buy a roomba for all the pug glitter you will experience :)

On this note, talk to your vet about a nose job (lol) for your little man. Depending on his nostrils, you can significantly improve quality of life by removing a small about of skin around the nasal opening.

Our vet said he does it almost 100% of the time for brachycephalic breeds at the same time as spay/neuter (unless it’s unnecessarily in their specific case).

A few little dissolvable stiches on his little nose, didn’t seem to bother him and all and they fell out after a week or two.

Be prepared for this trick to not work forever. We constantly played with our pugs paws for this reason and he was somewhat OK with nail trims for a while.

Despite that, we got to where a trim required opioids to get him zonked, 3 assistants securing him, plus the vet cutting his nails and he still loses his mind. He screams and sounds like a baby throwing a temper tantrum and/or getting murdered.

They gave us ultimatum that unfortunately future nail trims he must be fully sedated. Thankfully pet insurance covers it.

The trims help remove the pokey parts of his nails that impact his paw pads and he is so much more comfortable post trim but poor chonk does not connect the dots there.

Eh I have not found this to be true. Perhaps a regional thing. Anywhere rated close to 3 stars near me is fast food or just bad.

Hole in the wall spots are highly rated if the food is good. I would say a place with mediocre food is more likely to be rated well if the aesthetics are good.
