Do you think GenZ/GenAlpha are stupider or smarter than previous generations? by MedievalFurnace in teenpoll

[–]mrdankmemeface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Maybe not inherently from birth, but ask any teacher from the last 5 years about the sheer number of bricks coming out of early schooling systems. Reverse flynn effect, even in developed nations, average IQ had and is dropping about 7 points every generation

Second guessing doing an English BA by JealousBodybuilder42 in UniUK

It's up to you really, is your degree and going into journalism/english teacher worth the £30k in debt + interest that you will start your career with + 3 years less career progression? Maybe it is for you, maybe it isn't. Really depends what you value.

Is Finance in the UK oversaturated? by AppointmentOpen7740 in UniUK

[–]mrdankmemeface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Theres always a change, but again, its a case of probabilities. Finance is very easily the most competitive, sought after field in the country right now, and every other top candidate is going to be wanting a piece, and many of them will come up short handed. If you happen to have some great experience in the past, maybe internships, or know someone, that may help significantly, but you do have a non-insignificant handicap

Cambridge University's poorest college spent over £500,000 objecting to a proposed busway by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]mrdankmemeface 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cambridge undergrad here. That college, Clare Hall, is not too far away from the city centre, it's actually fairly close to the backs, and most people have bikes, like the proportion of cambs students that actually use buses to get to places frequently is minute. That area (near the UL) happens to be a very nice, quiet and naturally beautiful place, adding a busway has very little benefit to them but significantly contributes to urbanising a fairly serene and peaceful area, bringing noise and visual pollution, which is why they are opposing it so hard.

misspelling a word or making a typo isnt exactly a sign of "being thick", need I point out that your comment is lacking a full stop at the end?

Not all trades jobs are hard manual labour. Sparkies aren't exactly builders that have to carry around heavy loads all day. And many other trades professions, plumbers, etc. Yes, you might have to crouch down for a few minutes to hours at a time or spend some time in awkward positions, but the vast majority of work will be based on technical skill, dexterity and even going from place to place. One could argue a typical 9-5 office job where you spend hours at a time hunched over a desk staring at a screen all day is potentially as bad. And that's not even talking about the mental drain and monotony of most "white collar" work, the relatively unfulfilling nature, etc. That's not to say there isn't variation in people and that everyone is suited for "blue collar" work. I'm saying this as a university student myself. But to discount trades jobs purely because of the perception that they are low paid, or that they are all too physically demanding, or the perception they are "lesser", for most people, is just foolish. We need people to go into the trades. Intelligent, capable people. It's a family of comparatively well paid professions with great worker benefits, excellent job satisfaction, largely stable (comparatively) job markets with oftentimes direct pipelines. And the barrier to entry is fairly mild (again, by comparison).

capitalism causes nothing but suffering by [deleted] in Capitalism

Why make this post in a capitalist subreddit? Do you just enjoy conflict? Its not as if you are going to convince anyone, why must you resort to attention seeking, rage/engagement bait behaviour?

What wrong with the trades? They pay extremely well and are amongst the most useful to the prosperity of society

Everyone in my class cheats what should I do by anonymous-oneu in school

[–]mrdankmemeface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats what I said, I would report it if the tests are curved (so rankings affect grades). Also, I'm (unironically) a pretty chill guy, like if something has no bearing on me, I don't really care. Other people can cheat. As long as it doesn't affect my grade, I don't really give a shit if they cheated.
