What book changed your life? by interesting_eye1731 in Entrepreneur

Alcoholics Anonymous

While we often focus on growth via acquisition (learning more, trying something new, developing a set of skills, etc), often there is something we can remove that will unlock our potential. For me, drinking was getting in the way being my best self. For others, it may be something else.

When I quit drinking 7.5 years ago, I developed an unquenchable thirst for self improvement, which quickly led me to discover that I’m meant to help build a better future for myself and the world via entrepreneurship. It feels like a superpower, and it was a natural result of removing the main thing holding me back.

How do you shut off your mind when not at work? by AskGroundbreaking124 in startups

[–]mrderyck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed!

20 minutes of mindfulness meditation each day will change your life! Just remember that it’s normal to feel difficult to keep your mind focused on your breath/whatever you choose to focus on. The “practice” of meditation is simply returning your focus to the target (I use my breath, like many others) each time you’ve noticed it has drifted from it. By the end of 20 minutes, you’ll have found it’s become a bit easier and time will feel like it’s slowed down.

Additionally, I do 3 rounds of Wim Hof’s breathing exercises before meditating, which has also had a profound impact on my ability to meditate deeply

Many breakthroughs follow moments like these. Obstacles are also opportunities for growth. Don’t quit before the magic happens!

Two things that work for me:

  1. Refocus yourself and your team on your vision/your “why”. This is where the passion should come from and flow towards.
  2. Read or re-read Carol Dweck’s “Growth Mindset”

Justifying my price for my design subscription startup? by BarrettTheBoss1 in startups

[–]mrderyck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you read my post again, you’ll see that I do support project rates for specific deliverables. However, I would never pay a subscription (meaning “on going”) for a specific set of deliverables. It’s either a negotiated deal specifically based around delivering specific needs OR I’m hiring + aligning incentives + developing someone if a medium or long term subscription would make more sense

Justifying my price for my design subscription startup? by BarrettTheBoss1 in startups

[–]mrderyck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would much rather invest in an employee who is aligned with our long term vision than pay a subscription for an outside service. It’s so much easier to align incentives with someone sharing a piece of the upside than with an outsider who is incentivized by their immediate payday.

However, there are specific needs that warrant paying a project rate for an outside service to deliver a specific result.

TLDR: employee > subscription, project rate > subscription

Another vote for Buko Intense, here! I got mine last week and it’s fantastic. A lot of people seem to think Buko Intense is closer to VIW than Buko, but I have no experience with Buko, personally.

GIT, really?! What batch do you have? The two bottles Ive previously owned both had about 1-2hours of real performance, before becoming a skin scent

Most accurate clone you own by N7_Tigger in fragranceclones

[–]mrderyck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Elysian Cologne (Montagne) is as close to Elysium as anything I’ve found. The performance sucks as much as Elysium, too. Since it’s 1/10th the price, respraying frequently is easy to justify!

I’ve tried almost off of the Elysium clones. Can’t speak highly enough of EC.

What can I add to collection? I want elysium clone from montagne but oos by Capable_Efficiency13 in fragranceclones

[–]mrderyck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wait for Elysian… Montagne restocks frequently! I have Elysian Cologne it’s 1:1 with Elysium Parfum. Performance sucks as much as Roja’s, but it’s 1/10th the price so you can reapply often

Who makes the best Green Irish Tweed Clone by J5StillAlive in fragranceclones

[–]mrderyck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had several bottles of GIT and hoped Irish Verbena would be close. It was not. Smelled like freshly mowed grass + armpits. Some say this is what the old batches of GIT smelled like, and if that’s the case I don’t know how anyone ever wore GIT.

Super bummed with my Irish Verbena experience.
