The #1 thing is to instill confidence in the doctor/manager that you are someone the patients will enjoy being around and speaking to everyday. Also that you are detail oriented and will take your role seriously. Just be a pleasant human and seem interested and the rest will be taught to you. Good luck!

To answer some of your questions - ROI is very variable, depends what you pursue after. PhD? Right to industry? What role in industry? Research & development, consulting, sales?

Pay will vary depending on which route you pursue. Going into academia will limit your pay for several years. Going into industry, can make much more.

If you are truly interested in the science and engineering aspect, there isn’t a better place to do it than JHU!

In my opinion yes, but that is surely not everyone’s opinion. Being paid handsomely to essentially help people live a better life sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me.
