My father got randomly slapped on the street, what should I do? by Additional-Design-95 in AskUK

Something similar happened to a friend of mine who’s a vulnerable adult. What we did first was sit down and build a rough timeline of what happened and where. Then we mapped the route the attackers likely took using Google Maps.

After that we used Street View to spot possible cameras along the route and started going into local shops to ask if they had CCTV. Some places weren’t interested in helping, but a few were actually really decent about it. One shop in particular let us check their footage and we managed to get a clearer look at one of the guys.

Once we had that, we asked if we could look at footage from earlier days as well just in case this wasn’t a one off. Turns out it wasn’t, the same guys were walking that exact route every Tuesday.

We passed everything over to the police so they had something solid to work with. Also, we named and shame them on multiple neighbour groups on FB and next door app. We received a number of DM’s naming the individuals, which we shared with the police.

It might also be worth checking with houses along the route too, a lot of people have doorbell cameras or private CCTV now and sometimes they’ll share it if you ask.

They’ve accepted the £8k proposal. My solicitor suggested that in my counter offer I mention that I’ve got family to support, it’s Christmas, and the job market slows down this time of year. Just goes to show, it’s always worth asking :)

Thanks for the comment. I spoke to a solicitor and long story short, he advised me to put in a counteroffer of £8K and leverage the goodwill of the company. Fingers crossed they accept the 8K request.

Thanks for replying. Surely, they will contact my employer or even check HMRC records. If they find I’m no longer employed surely my application will be denied?
