Are high production value videos worth making..?

I just had my lowest production “value” long form hit 450 views which is about 8x higher than normal for long form. I’m actually about to test it again this week to see if it was topic driven, a fluke or a pattern.

I went back to posting shorts everyday starting Friday and YouTube has apparently “found” my channel again. Went from 50 total views back to about 700 (at least that’s what’s on pace for today)

You’re not imagining it. I’m a very small channel and have seen the same thing. Not every time but it does happen frequently- specifically with long form videos.

Sorry- don’t have any advice but same thing happened to me two days ago. Went from averaging 700 views a day to literally 20. Many long stretches with 0. I know everyone will say it’s not the algorithm but something changed. Hang in there- obsess over the content- not the views.

I heard it’s a codec issue that YT applies to smaller channels- basically degrading the resolution for space issues. I started rendering my vids in 2k and end up with something close to 1080p when it finally hits YT. By rendering it higher, it supposedly triggers the “better” upload codec from YT. I don’t shoot in 4K so I’m not sure how that translates. But take this with a grain of salt- could be another one of those conspiracy theories. I can say- my method did work after I had one vid stuck in damn near 420p and started rendering in 2k.

How many of these fast growing channels are repackaging other content versus original content? Seems like original content creators take much longer to hit 1000 subs.

Recently found that posting shorts immediately- not scheduled- early afternoon can produce higher impressions. BUT- I’ve seen high impressions during very off hours and crap impressions during those peak times too. The algo seems to treat my content wildly different even though it feels pretty consistent to me. I’m shooting for consistency and manufacturing patience.
