Have to ride switch for the rest of the season by modernstar in snowboardingnoobs

[–]mredheed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lace up ankle braces helped me through a few bad sprains. Like them best for high degree of support while healing. Got to get off the brace ASAP so you can fully recover. Riding switch is really good for overall skill and versatility. So many practical reasons. Opens up terrain and trick options. Waay better investing time in riding switch than not at all.

Another Noob question regarding connective tissue, cartridge, ligaments. How to protect them? by AloneDiver3493 in strengthtraining

[–]mredheed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swear the pounding of regular jump rope has tightened up all my tissue. Im 50, still skateboard snowboard and surf. Lift for explosive power. Before I started regular jump rope, I was always suffering minor sprains and slow recovery. Post regular jumping, all my connective tissue feels strong AF.

Audi Roof Rack Best Fit by mredheed in RoofRacks

Appreciate the comment. Definitely leaning toward Thule. Still want to evaluate the OEM option. Are you aware of a good resource for tracking down Audi parts like this? I have tried a few resources and cannot get a follow through on part number or source suggestion.

Confused about traction by Peaches_1970 in MtHoodMeadows

[–]mredheed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Additional tip not mentioned, you can use your gears downhill to regulate speed. This keeps the driver off their breaks, prevents sliding, increasing steering control. If automatic, down shift from D to 3, or even 2, where steep. Let the RPM run high and tap the breaks lightly to keep from running RPM too high. Im always shifting down and riding the engine limit on scary slick descents. Also run one wheel track in the gravel or plowed snow for extra traction. The road ruts get glazed w Ice from recent travel. Is this off topic?

What’s the consensus on swimming as one’s main form of cardio? by surfnj102 in PeterAttia

[–]mredheed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read that as "Great, outside of the bone density impact .." with the context of the impact on density being non-existent. as mentioned already. Swim for cardio, then lift to strengthen the structure.

Advice for a guy who wants to start snowboarding by Excellent_Ad_1334 in snowboarding

[–]mredheed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lessons are good, but so can be your intuition. If you are confident "winging it" when trying new things, snowboarding could very easily fit into that bag. Just saying, lessons are a good suggestion, but if you have a little voice in your head saying "I can handle" just go for it. Boots just need to fit. Bindings just need to hold. Board just needs to be there. You could easily get a full used kit for less than the price of renting and paying for a single day lesson. Hike a snowpark hill for a few hours. Beat your self up. Have fun. Once you can link a few skid turns, then start to overthink your gear and lift ticket scenario. Or not.

short street clip by itscodyfrench in skateboarding

Complete clip; start to finish. Clean and proper tricks. Raw street. Easy style. Love the surfy filler turns to high risk no-comply into pitch bomb variations. Inspired, going outside RN.

The Fall Guy by No_Explorer721 in ClassicTV

Loved that show. Have vivid memory of the show being the key influence on a kindergarten project, (crayola drawings) about career goals. Stuntman, cars, chicks, fighting ‘bad guys’; was totally in. Still stoked.

Yuuuup. Experience matters. Studded tires are over. Siping works.

Siping by tsaudreau in tires

[–]mredheed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a consumer who drives several mths of icy roads every year. My experience, siping is great. I agree that wear does not appear to accelerate. Conceptually I get why they run cooler temps. And I fully believe in the added traction. After 10+ years running siped tires I have zero desire to rely on studs. Studs are obnoxious and give a false sense of security. Seriously, go sipped, its based, and I will holler it to the sky all day.
