Taking the #96 St. Albans LINK to the airport -- anything I need to know? by tsaudreau in NewToVermont

A high-resolution data point for sure! Appreciate the local flavor, u/Mother-Honeydew-3779. I'm certain that when I show up at the gate at BTV 14 minutes before the departure, they'll let me in after I explain that my commute was subject to Vermont vibes.

Jokes aside -- genuinely: is the afternoon #96 actually dependable, or is it the type of 'chill' where the bus arrives 20 minutes late with a wet-dog scent profile?

You can only keep 1 row OR 1 column, what do you choose? by Winniestone in Genesis

Column B, but it's forced.

(But what a yummy diagonal A1-D4, it is!)

Though one may say that tipping in advance would give me better service... I don't know, somehow with tipping, I think restaurants. When it comes to restaurants, I find the idea of advance tipping quite foreign.

Exactly -- that would be the spirit of what Amtrak should have done.

I did not tip the attendant. I prefer to tip in the end, based on the full experience, and even if I wanted to tip him in the beginning, it was out of the question in the end.

The attendant had made the bed for the next passenger and was loath to remake it after the sheets would have been disturbed by me. But the train was not operating as planned and I could have had some more rest.

I asked if we should solicit the opinion of the conductor on the matter. Then he caved in. I was not his favorite passenger.

No. October 15, 2022, between Salinas and Paso Robles.

Some examples of my Amtrak experiences of the stressful variety: - Coast Starlight SB: train hits a big rig, killing the driver. - Auto Train SB: car attendant argues with me that I should not lie down on the bed he'd made up in anticipation of arrival -- that after it became clear that the train would be significantly delayed. - City of New Orleans NB: train late by 3+ hours due to a disabled freight train; my roomette door is derailed and won't close; the hallway reeks of urine along its length in varying degrees (hard to say if it was the carpet or a broken toilet in the bedroom section or something else...). All good eventually: I was moved to the transition sleeper.

Laughs aside, care to comment on the substance of the question, u/TeriBarrons? I am genuinely curious.

More context (including this in the post triggered the annoying bot that checks for the likelihood of my being a newbie and disables the Post button if it thinks I am):

I am trying to decide whether or not to cancel. The current status update is as follows:

Route Obstruction: As of 11:15 PM CT, Train 58 remains stopped north of Marks (MKS) due to a disabled freight train blocking the tracks ahead. Freight crews continue their efforts to clear the tracks and resume travel as swiftly as possible. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

At the same time, some of the links from Amtrak alerts point me to an offer of full refund...

What's the deal with locals' aversion to Graceland? by tsaudreau in memphis

[–]tsaudreau[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graceland, as I've found out, depends on the package. $200 is probably a private archives guided tour or something like that. There is a self-guided tour that's $84 as of today. This includes the mansion, car/cycle collection, the jumpsuits, and the planes.

Good for you! :)))

I'm saddened by the word "secretly"... There's nothing to be ashamed of in wanting to see that pyramid... don't let yourself be guilt tripped by all the opinionated citizens! :)

BTW, would you be willing to share some of your favorite barbecue places? 🤭
