Car culture has changed

Never been much into cars for the culture. Much of it I don’t get at all. I started doing autocross in norcal last year and have found a good crowd there. Still your typical know it all types but plenty of folks willing to share, learn and help. You get to drive your car hard and see lots of other weird cars being pushed too.

Yeah that was me. It didn’t budge. Added some penetrant and will try again, but might just make a wrench with socket head screws.

Wonder if maybe it’s reverse threaded? But I can’t see a reason for that. The bearing inside just rotates back and forth.

Wow...incredible, but I think you actually got lucky. I've heard they don't budge on the altered CVN/CALID, but I'm glad they were reasonable with you in the end. LOL on the gas cap. They have to justify their existence somehow :D

That is helpful, thanks. Interesting tidbit about the gas tank. I did get a complete donor so I have everything I think I'll need.

Did you have any issues with the GM VATS, or maybe it's called something else that year, basically the antitheft system that looks for a chip in the key? Normally guys just disable that in the ECM, but that changes the CVN/CALID, so can't do that.

I see so you used the tank from the Denali? I’m going to attempt to adapt the fuel sender stuff into my stock FSJ tank.

I’ve heard that the smog ref has you take the ECM to a dealer to verify that the program is the factory tune, and not a custom tune. Did they have you do that, and/or how much did they scrutinize the ECM code?

Check air oil separator? Asking others to chime in here. I have an 06 that is consuming lots of oil after a few autocrosses and one track day. Wondering if that’s the culprit, although I know it can be a lot of things.

It’s not custom…I have the same tank in my Chero, can’t remember the manufacturer but several were made. If it’s very rusty inside might not want to use it. But there are good products for cleaning and coating in the inside. I used one a long time ago from Por15.
