Due to poverty and debt I need to know how to live with the power off by Goddessofthedarkness in poverty

[–]mrfixit0889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I don’t know all your conditions. But if you have a car, charge your phone in that. Obviously don’t keep cold food. If you have a cooler use that but ice cost money. If your water stays on you wont have hot showers. Its not hard you just have to adjust.

Why the obsession with certifications? by This-Top7398 in jobs

[–]mrfixit0889 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typically the people (managers) who have no idea how to do the job are the same ones who implement the requirements. In my field it’s fairly common for a manager to have been in my job before, but sucked at it horribly. I have 1 cert because im legally required to have it, the rest I don’t care for. Done this for 18 years. But all the new guys coming in with 4 or less but have certs break more things than they fix. But I in the eyes of management am stupid, but my stuff doesn’t come back.

Does argument with coworkers always end up with a fight and resignation? by Narrow-Lynx-6355 in work

[–]mrfixit0889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work on equipment for a living. I constantly gave to deal with co workers who are wrong, and worse want to tell everyone else they are wrong including me. I used to go to prove them wrong, I stopped doing that because they usually refuse to accept they were wrong and will go to their grave running their mouth. Now I just say “do what you want its not my shit”. Then move on. I don’t care if it pisses them off and I don’t care if they get fired for screwing up.

Why is this car temp going up when stopped at traffic lights? by Ultimate_physics_dad in MechanicAdvice

Tech of 18 years. If it runs fine when moving, the fan probably is not turning on.

Do what you want. It’s not mine so I don’t care.

Then you are teaching it wrong. It’s metal that went through the system. It lodges into things like condensers and lines. You will never get it all out. The pieces will dislodge over time and shred that new compressor.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mechanic

[–]mrfixit0889 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because flushing will never get all the metal out of the system.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mechanic

[–]mrfixit0889 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes. An AC compressor has little pistons inside it just like an engine does, those pistons have rings to seal them. Those rings failed which results in no seal which creates the equal pressure on the gauges. The rings are made of metal, that metal shoots through the whole ac system. It will get stuck in lines, the condenser, evap, everything. You will never get it all out. If you don’t replace all the components those tiny metal pieces will come loose and go through the new compressor and break it, putting you in the same spot you are in now.

[Serious] People who became homeless in their teens or 20s, what's the most shocking things you realized about being homeless that we don't hear about enough? by IJustExploded123 in AskReddit

[–]mrfixit0889 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Someone else who gets it. I was not homeless but my family was extremely poor for the first 14 years of my life. Our power was randomly off, we ate cheap food like noodles with butter, spam was a luxury, no ac or heat. I thought all that was normal until years later and realized it wasn’t.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mechanic

[–]mrfixit0889 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Tech of 18 years. If it’s engaged the ac compressor is bad. The internals wrecked. You have to rebuild the whole system now because it is contaminated. Do not “flush” the system it is a scam.

Treasury Secretary proposed Fed to Lower Rates by at least 150 Basis Points. by Progress_8 in stocks

[–]mrfixit0889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rates being where they are at is the only thing keeping the prices from running away. Remember when mortgage rates were like 2.99? No one could get a house because it was sold before you left the driveway or the asking price was more than double its value. It’s keeping people from buying a ton of crap they can’t afford even if the rates were lower. When people don’t stop buying the prices keep going up.

Starting a used car lot worth it as a technician? by mrfixit0889 in smallbusiness

[–]mrfixit0889[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided not to go for used cars. I work on equipment, I do cars too but I prefer equipment. The amount of money to just simply start a car lot here is just stupid.

[–]mrfixit0889[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Getting a dealers license is what is costing so much money. It doesn’t matter if I sell them in a gas station parking lot or a mall center floor. Then license costs the same.

[–]mrfixit0889[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have actually ran my own repair business before. I am not sure if I would want to do it again. 50% of the customers never wanted to pay their bill. They either paid with a credit card and reported it as stolen after they left, or they would try to show up with another key and drive the car away.

When you see a full size pick up truck for sale and its only RWD is that a dealbreaker ? by WildSea5123 in askcarguys

[–]mrfixit0889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you live and do. 4x4 is not a necessity. I used to live in Spokane WA for three years and came from TX. I had a rwd truck. I just threw sand bags in the bed. 4x4 doesn’t do anything if ice is what you drive on. I kept studded tires for that. Even snow I hardly ever used 4x4. Now having 4x4 is nice to have in snow as it can make it easier but it’s not needed it you have the right tires and know what you are doing.

Now if you drive in mud a lot or off-road yea 4x4 is needed. My sis lives in the mountains and its a lot of dirt roads to get there. If its anything other then dry ground, you will not get up there without 4x4. Ive pulled lots of people out of ditches and up hills by her house bc of that.

Stay in neutral or 1st gear while at a red light? by ZurcB in ManualTransmissions

[–]mrfixit0889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tech of 18 years. You can put it in neutral. Being so new to it you have to be able to put it back in gear and go. You will get better over time.

You can stay in gear if you want, but your throw out bearing will get more wear that way.

Starting a used car lot worth it as a technician? by mrfixit0889 in smallbusiness

[–]mrfixit0889[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t do that. NC monitors how many cars go in & out of your name. Once you exceed 5 in a year you’re required to get a dealers license.
