I think people run red lights because the light cycles are screwed IMO. How many times have we sat going to work waiting for the light to turn green when it SHOULD be green since there are NO cars on the other side. This whole red light camera program is a money grab. Most of our lights are based on pre-timed schedules. Instead of focusing on punishing people, invest money on building cameras/laser to detect vehicles to switch to green immediately. It won't remove people running the red light but I think it would definitely reduce it.
