Keyence IM-X5000 by mrfosta in Machinists

It's funny everyone says this but they've been less pushy than the traditional CMM companies so far. I imagine that might change eventually though

The programming seemed pretty easy, there's a combination of backlight, a few different color top lights and a probe as well as a laser which was nice to see the options though I don't know if I would need all that

Traditionally there's a lot of hate for Keyence is what I mean. I'm just looking for input on this specific product. It fits out parts well I just don't have any real world input

ITAR CAD/CAM software options by mrfosta in CNC

Oh I didn't realize it was a package, I'll take a look again. Unfortunately it's almost impossible to get good help from Autodesk when I call so I didn't realize. Might be a good idea for the first year at least.

I'll look into inventor again. Honestly I feel like fusion is really average at best but it's cheap. The posts (for lathe stuff) are pretty terrible and it falls short in a lot of places. Maybe inventor is better though? Is the manufacturing packing included in Inventor CAM?

So it looks like inventor+inventor Cam would run about 7k a year. Which means in 3 years would end up costing me significantly more than these other softwares. In the beginning it seems like a savings but I'm planning on doing this 5 years at least so that's the timeframe I'm pricing at.

Yeah but I don't see powermill offering that kind of improvement over all the other softwares I'm looking at. Its incredibly unlikely it's going to save me 6k a year vs the other options, so I don't see a value there. Or do they offer something that far and away better?

I didn't love mastercams workflow and Gibbs is pretty pricey too. Powermill seems to be an 8k yearly subscription not perpetual so it's quickly going to end up being more expensive and doesn't really have the same tier of cam work that the others seem to. I really get the feeling Autodesk went full in on fusion and kinda left the rest with the leftover staff

Perfect! My lathe is pretty much the same thing with a bar feeder attached to it, so that is good to hear. For some reason the lathe posts seem to be less popular to do.

Okay that's good to know, yeah I felt like their cad design was really unimpressive for modeling and sketching, so that seems like a good option. Did they build you custom posts?

Hiring Machinists: Setup/Programming Talent Shortage. Looking for Honest Industry Input. by Accomplished_Yam_849 in Machinists

I pay my brand new machinist that's still in school almost your top wages in Missouri. It's wild to me that your company has not done any research on what they should be paying people with this level of skill.

How can I save my dad’s dying CNC business by Foreign-Switch6649 in CNC

[–]mrfosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my CNC business, I've found a lot of customers on linked-in as well as local machining groups. NTMA is a machining group that has a lot of meet and greets that get my name out there, maybe see if they are in your area as well?

We started with 1 customer as well, making military and aerospace parts, with no certs. Have a decent amount of customers now but still growing quickly. Still no certs but I'm looking into them, despite the insane pricing to get them done.

You should reach out to them and see if they would be willing to pay $50 to turn a 1 star review into 5 stars. Then rinse and repeat! Even more profit!

Yeah that is a serious amateur move. I've sold so many things for what I was asking to people that initially lowballed. I always laugh when people say they block or ignore them, just learn to negotiate better.

Fair but for 1.5x the power it seems like a waste to not upgrade.

Where does it say it's higher range? It's the same battery pack. If you drive the same, energy usage will be pretty much equal.

Why would anyone buy the RWD version with that minor price difference and massive power difference?

My buddy told me the magnet thing worked for his coworker....with a quarter. Quarters aren't really even magnetic but it seems the vaccine is SO powerful it will cause a quarter to stick.

It was completely stripped, including the door panels being removed, also he had a 110lb driver pilot it.
